Shockwaves NME Awards nominees announced

The nominations are in for the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards, and there’s plenty to muse over.

Sheffield boys Arctic Monkeys are up for six honours, including best British band, best live band, best album, best track, best video and best video album artwork. To cap it off, frontman Alex Turner’s personal style has been saluted in the Best Dressed category.

There are plenty of specialised awards to be given away, including Hero of The Year, Villain of The Year and Sexiest Man/Woman. NME darling Pete Doherty has been nominated in both the Best and Worst Dressed categories – but even more confusing is My Chemical Romance popping up on the Best International Band and Worst Band lists.

Other contenders for the Worst Band crown of thorns are 30 Seconds To Mars, Fall Out Boy, The Hoosiers and Panic At The Disco.

You can vote HERE, and remember to get in by Monday 25 February. If you’re hankering for some jet lag, the awards go down at IndigO2 in London on 28 February.
