New riddem for Michael Franti
Thu 24th Jan, 2008 in International News
Throughout his multi-layered career from the punk-industrial backbone of the bands, The Beatnigs and Disposable Heroes Of Hiphoprisy, to his venture as an award winning documentary filmmaker with the release of “I Know I’m Not Alone”, then to the positive groove of his current band, Spearhead, – Michael Franti is this generation’s voice of positive change and inspiration through his music.
Having sold millions of albums, toured the world over and produced some of the most moving, political songs of our time – Franti records a new album with one of reggae’s most prolific and long lasting production teams, Sly & Robbie ( No Doubt, Alicia Keys, Bob Dylan ).
The new album, slotted for a worldwide release in June, presents a fresh outlook on the global dance floor, mixing Franti’s snatches of poetic and politically infused lyrics with Sly & Robbie’s influential rougher rhythms. The album features some harder beats called “rockers” in songs such as ‘Sound System’ and ‘Little Bit Of Riddem’ featuring Jamaican dance-hall queen, Cherine Anderson.
Deep dub grooves dominate the sexy track titled ‘All I Want Is You’ and the sure to be favourite track titled ‘Say Hey’. Michael Franti and Spearhead are a punchy, poppy, fun, international flavoured dance-hall joint that is feel good through and through.
