World-conquering Glaswegians Franz Ferdinand are at work on their upcoming long player, and it promises to be “a dirty pop record”.
Talking to Billboard.com, singer Alex Kapranos revealed the band has been recording in Glasgow, after aborting their big-budget London studio sessions.
“We decided the ones we did in Glasgow sounded much better,” Kapranos told the website. “There was a real dirtiness, edge and attitude.
“It’s funny, because logically everything is wrong. We should go to a big studio and spend millions. But logic is never appropriate when you’re making music. You’ve gotta trust your instincts. This stuff made us want to get up and dance.”
Kapranos also elaborated on the sound of the as-yet-untitled third album.
“The idea of making a dirty pop record – this is what has been on our minds,” he divulged. “It’s the opposite of punk/pop, which took something that was wonderful and removed all the dirt.”
The band has been experimenting with old Russian synthesisers, including one built in the late ‘70s called a Polyvox.
“For me, the imperfections are what makes it perfect, like the cheapest, shittiest guitars through practice amps,” Kapranos mused.
No release date has been drafted yet for the album.
