The prestigious Spirit Awards, which honour achievement in independent cinema, seem to have found a frontrunner in I’m Not There, the unconventional film essaying the life of Bob Dylan.

I’m Not There has claimed four major nominations, including Best Feature. Much has been made of the film’s casting – with several actors, including a woman and an African-American boy, portraying the iconic musician. Cate Blanchett has received a Best Supporting Actress nomination for her role, while the young Marcus Carl Frankil has beaten co-stars Heath Ledger, Richard Gere and Christian Bale to a Best Supporting Actor nod. Todd Haynes is also in the running for Best Director.

The Spirit Awards are to be held the day before the Academy Awards in Los Angeles next February.

Here’s the trailer for I’m Not There. The anticipation mounts!
