Postcards from Sparkadia

Ivy League Records are very excited to announce that their latest signing is Sydney four-piece Sparkadia.

Sparkadia write modern pop songs, pop songs that blend the crystalline vocals of front-man Alex Burnett with bold guitars, resplendent melodies and a film-like production quality. The band was introduced to Australian music fans with ‘Morning Light’, a track that had huge support at community radio and triple j, and saw their debut EP sell-out two pressings.

This great reaction brought Sparkadia to the attention of London-based label Ark Recordings who signed the band and brought them over to London’s Miloco Studios to record their debut album with uber-producer Ben Hillier ( Doves, Elbow, Blur and Depeche Mode ) at the helm. They have just completed their first UK tour, which saw them support The Thrills across the country, and have been wowing critics with their first single there, ‘Animals’.

Live, Sparkadia have toured nationally with an impressive list of bands including Elbow, Death Cab For Cutie, Tegan And Sarah, Ben Lee and The Cops. Add The Pet Shop Boys, Mika, The Bravery and The Feeling to that and the broad appeal of Sparkadia’s music and message is evident. Most recently Sparkadia pulled off an ambitious performance in promoting their own night at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory. Displaying their bent for a spectacle, the guys added Burlesque, Tango dancers and magicians to the line up that saw the room overflowing and in so doing established the band as artists looking to make a statement and a difference.

Sparkadia’s new single, – œAnimals’ will be released as a special digital only single on December 11.

Sparkadia’s debut album Postcards is set for release in mid 2008.
