In the world of music business, Radiohead have always been a quirky band… The outfit have proven once more that they deserve the mantle the industry has dubbed upon them by today announcing that they are taking the rather unusual route of allowing fans to name the price they want to pay for the upcoming Radiohead release.

The CD titled In Rainbows will mark the band’s seventh studio album and will be available for digital download from the band’s website from October 10 – the twist – fans can name their own price for the purchase. “It’s up to you,” says the disclaimer on the checkout…

Pre-orders for the digital album have begun at the band’s site radiohead.com, and a traditional CD release is planned for next year – although the band have yet to decide which label will be releasing the album. Their former label, EMI is said to be a frontrunner for the job…

In Rainbows, was produced by Nigel Godrich, and is the band’s first effort since 2003’s hugely successful Hail to the Thief.
