Here’s the April programme!
Monday 4th April
Dear Dead Delilah (1972)
This suspense/horror is a Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte homage about a crippled, wealthy owner of a mansion whose greedy relatives search for lost money on her southern plantation. When they begin being stalked by an axe murderer, fingers are pointed every where especially at the matriarch’s new housekeeper, who coincidently was just released from prison for killing her mother with an axe thirty years ago? She gets revenge when the relatives start losing their heads. This is one of the films that was spawned by Whatever Happened to Baby Jane in which an older actress graces a horror movie with her presence; in this case, Agnes Moorehead, who seems to be on autopilot here (it would be her last movie). This one is especially for axe murder completists.

Serpent Island (1954)
A tropical island filled with knife- wielding natives, deadly voodoo rituals and gargantuan serpents is the arena for two rugged seamen fighting for the attention of one voluptuous woman on a quest to find her grand father. Sonny Tufts (Cat Women of the Moon) stars as one of the men but seems to be holding his stomach in most of the time. Unfortunately he cannot hold this pose throughout the entire film and at times drops his guard (stomach) making for great laughs. This is low budget drive-in fair with real voodoo ceremony footage inter cut. From Bert I. Gordon, the exploitation director known as “Mr. Big” for his initials and for his two most popular films, The Amazing Colossal Man and Village of the Giants. Not to be missed.

The Bubble in 3D (1966)
Filmed in complete secrecy, Arch Oboler, master of the unusual brings you the worlds first feature utilising fourth-dimensional Space Vision. Star Michael Cole (The Mod Squad) recalls, “So secret were the plot and methods of photography projecting into the fourth dimension of space that the studio’s top brass were persona non grata and barred from their own stages. “I don’t know how the other actors felt but when I went home at night I often felt I was literally floating into space after a day in front of all the technical equipment needed to photograph this new process.” A pilot and his two passengers must make an emergency landing when a violent storm overtakes their craft. The next morning they head into town to discover Americana gone awry. Its residents are robot like, repeating the same thing over and over again. The three grab a truck and head out, but are met by an impenetrable wall that stretches all around them. Is there any escape from this alien bubble? What has the whole town terrified they’ve turned into mindless zombies? Who put the glass cage on Earth, and why?3D glasses will be provided.

Incidents and Footage of UFO’s part 2
Over the last 15 years the archives has amassed an enormous amount of material on UFO’s. We have begun slowly cataloging and digitizing this footage. Tonight is the second in a series of Best of programs. With many people leaving the archives last month claiming that they are now true believers we will be looking at high profile incidents that made headlines to the more obscure but just as fascinating and inexplicable as the better known cases. How can there be so much evidence for a true phenomenon that ridicule is still commonly the only way people perceive the subject!!
