No Big Day Out in 2015 butpromoters confirm plans toreturn

Big Day Out promoters, American based company C3 Presents, have confirmed to FL that there won’t be a festival in 2015 – but have also indicated that they have plans to resurrect the tour.

“C3 Presents is proud to own Big Day Out, one of the most iconic and established festival brands in the world,” they told FL. “While we intend to bring back the festival in future years, we can confirm there will not be a Big Day Out in 2015. We love working on BDO and are excited about the future.”

FL POLL: WILL THE BIG DAY OUT RETURN?

Yesterday news broke that promoter AJ Maddah is no longer involved in the Big Day Out and that no bookings have been made at the venues where the BDO has been held in recent years. According to documents lodged with the Australian Securities and Investment Commission on June 13, it appears that Maddah and his wife Joanna Ward (collectively trading as MADJO) transferred their 50 percent stake in the festival over to C3 Presents, who bought into the Big Day Out in January 2012. On the same day, Maddah stood down as Big Day Out director.

Maddah bought into the Big Day Out in September 2013, purchasing founding owner Ken West’s stake of the festival. According to Fairfax reports, the festival lost between $8- and $15-million on the 2014 event, which was headlined by Pearl Jam and Arcade Fire, but was marred by Blur’s 11th hour cancellation.

That's a big gap in our Aussie Summer Festival Season, is it time to attempt to bring V Festival back?

would be a lot of work managing this and soundwave. Hopefully when it comes back it doesn't have such a confused lineup.

well, BC (presumably) doesn't call the people he works with cunts when things don't go his way, so that's BC 1, AJ 0.

AJ has organised some festivals with excellent lineups but he's left a trail of destruction in his wake.

People that use this type of argument are the most mongoloid idiots in existence.

By this logic, Nickelback is one of the best bands ever due to releasing popular albums and playing big shows.

uhh, not really m8. nickelback are just a band that play shows and put out records, while aj uses his OWN MONEY to put on shows that other bands play (not just his band, the porkers) and invites everyone else to come and check out the entertainment.

so, i guess you're actually the "m*ngoloid" (i really disagree with using this word, tbh)

I don't think Tyler's analogy quite matches, but VE your "what have YOU done for X" is the absolute worst argument ever.

In theory, it prevents 99% of the population from having an opinion on anything creative - films, books, music, art, etc. You could also stretch it to an opinion on anything, ever. "Oh, yeah, you don't like Politician X. Well, when have YOU been a politician?"

nah, i know what it is. i've seen aj screaming abuse at vendors at his festivals for charging too much money for water or alcohol, or at the st johns people for charging for sunscreen...

other industry folks just let that kind of greed slide and just see it as apart of playing "the game" but aj has this real refreshing purity abouyt him in the fact that he calls that shit out and lets his customers know that they're being taken for a ride.

it's pure integrity

Gold coin donation for sunscreen is very minimal fundraising by a "not for profit". If you think that abusing them is fair game, heaven help you.

Maybe if he cares so much about giving punters access to cheap food and beverage he should charge less for them to operate at his festivals.

I have never seen St Johns Ambulance charge for sunscreen at any event I've ever been to.

m8, it's not just twitter. i've seen him irl frothing at the mouth, spewing abuse at a vendor for charging more than what had been planned and agreed upon. i've seen people have to physically hold him back in fear that he'd jump over the bar and tear the whole thing down...

he is putting his reputation on the line for because he thinks this shit is wrong, while every other promoter jsut sits by quietly as alcohol/water prices go up and up because they're sniveling little sycophantic buttholes more worried about their career and playing "the game" than doing what is right and a little thing called i n t e g r i t y

Do you think what festival operators charge food vendors stays the same or goes down each year rather than increasing like everything else?

I think you are completely clueless if you think AJ isn't profitting off these vendors.

Do you really think food stall vendors are making massive profits? My guess looking at every food stall at a festival or otherwise is probably not.

I think it just makes him a hypocrite if he berates these people in public and rings very true to the personality he shows on twitter and in interviews.
