Gwar's management releasestatement confirming frontmanDavid Brockie's death

Gwar’s management has released a statement confirming the details of frontman David Brockie’s death.

Reports emerged last night that the musician – who was best known as his alter-ego Oderus Urungus – was found dead by a roommate between 3pm and 7pm local time. The news was first reported by Style Weekly, and then confirmed by former Gwar member Todd Evans via the Facebook page of his thrash metal band Mobile Deathcamp.

Gwar’s manager Jack Flanagan released the following statement this morning:

It is with a saddened heart, that I confirm my dear friend Dave Brockie, artist, musician, and lead singer of GWAR passed away at approximately 6:50 PM EST Sunday March 23,2014. His body was found Sunday by his band mate at his home in Richmond, VA. Richmond authorities have confirmed his death and next of kin has been notified. A full autopsy will be performed. He was 50 years old, born August 30, 1963.

My main focus right now is to look after my band mates and his family. More information regarding his death shall be released as the details are confirmed.

Tributes for Brockie had already started to flow last night, with Randy Blythe of Richmond metal band Lamb Of God commenting that the frontman was “really one of a kind”. Closer to home festival promoter AJ Maddah, who toured GWAR as part of the Soundwave Festival last month, described Brockie as “one of the nicest people I have worked with”.
