Surprise! Wolfmother havereleased a new album

Taking a leaf out of Beyonce’s playbook, Wolfmother surprised fans by releasing a new album on the weekend.

Streaming online and available via bandcamp for $7, New Crown is the followup to 2009′s Cosmic Egg, and comes less than a year since frontman Andrew Stockdale released his debut solo record Keep Moving.

Originally slated as a Wolfmother record, Stockdale decided to ditch the Wolfmother moniker at the eleventh hour, releasing the sprawling, 16-track Keep Moving under his own name. “It might not be the smartest choice but all I wanted to do was put out a record under my own name and self-produce it,” Stockdale told FL at the time. “I might lose fans or might gain fans, but you’ve got to have a go at doing what you want to do at some point in your life.” The switch to solo mode didn’t last long, however, with Stockdale reclaiming the Wolfmother name one month after the record was released.

Wolfmother – whose lineup currently consists of Stockdale, bassist/keyboardist Ian Peres, and drummer Vin Steele – have also announced a handful of headline shows to launch the record, including a gig at The Corner Hotel in Melbourne on March 31 Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory on April 2.

I heard poor Andy was so distraught from the solo album affair that he legally changed his name to Wolfmother.
