Trent Reznor says Grammys were“an utter waste of time”

Just in case you had any lingering doubt about his views on the Grammys, Trent Reznor has lashed out against the awards again calling them “an utter waste of time”.

Although Grammys producer Ken Ehrlich has apologised to Reznor, the Nine Inch Nails frontman is still fuming that his live collaboration with Fleetwood Mac’s Lindsey Buckingham, Dave Grohl, and Queens Of The Stone Age at the close of last month’s awards presentation was cut off by ads for Delta Airlines and Hilton Hotels.

“We weren’t expecting was that level of insult,” Reznor told New Zealand’s 3news. “In fact we walked off stage and I thought, ‘Hey, that actually went pretty well’, and I look at my collaborator Rob Sheridan, who I run into, and he’s like, ‘Oh my god man, you won’t believe what they just did’ … I can look now and say I should have expected something like that, you know? But, more than anything it was just insulting.”

Reznor says that while he had never paid attention to the Grammys he was flattered by the invitation to perform. “I spent a long time talking about the pros and cons,” he explains. “You know, ‘Do we want to be on a shit show on TV? No, not really. Do we want to be affiliated with the Grammys? No, not really. Would we like to reach a large audience and actually do something with integrity on our terms? Well, yeah. Let’s roll the dice and go into it with the best intentions, with a performance we think is worthy and might – you know – stand out from the crowd. Or it might not!”
