No Warped Tour for Canberra in2014

If the Warped Tour returns to Australia this year it will be very different to the festival we saw in late 2013.

Promoter AJ Maddah has now confirmed at least two of the cities that hosted the event last year – Canberra and Coffs Harbour – struggled to draw large enough crowds to justify a return in 2014. Via Twitter, Maddah has described the attendance in Canberra as “very poor” and revealed that only 1800 punters attended the event in Coffs. While Maddah says the low crowd numbers don’t necessarily mean that the festival won’t return to regional centres it does “rule out places where not many kids turned up”. In addition to Canberra and Coffs Harbour, the 2013 Warped Tour was also staged in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.

The return of Warped festival in 2014 is still a matter of speculation. But Maddah has revealed on Twitter that he’ll talk to “the boss” – Warped Tour founder and co-promoter of the Australian festival Kevin Lyman – in April about this year’s plans for the tour.

8 THINGS WE LEARNT FROM THE SYDNEY WARPED TOUR

The 2013 Warped Tour was the first time the festival had been staged in Australia since 2002. The Warped Tour visited Australia for the first time in 1998 with a lineup that included Pennywise, Frenzal Rhomb, The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, and Blink 182 hitting nine east coast dates –the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Coffs Harbour, Sydney, Ulladulla, Newcastle, Adelaide, Melbourne and Geelong. The festival returned in 1999 and 2002 hitting similar locations including Ulladulla on the central coast and the Mornington Peninsula.

No Coffs, no Canberra, no Adelaide.

Looks like AJ is only a Sydney Melbourne and Brisbane promoter now.

Didn't the Warped fest sell fairly badly across the board? Or am I just imagining that?
