Neil Finn offers Lorde"advice" – then retracts it

When Neil Finn told Lorde she needed to leave New Zealand, he was just making an offhand comment – not giving the singer advice.

Speaking to The Guardian today, Finn said Lorde should contemplate moving overseas rather than dealing with the intense media scrutiny back home. It follows an incident at Auckland airport where the multiple Grammy winner and her family were set upon by a team of reporters.

“Those news teams are idiots,” Finn told The Guardian. “New Zealand had, up until that moment, been quite a good environment [for her] because people are not super celebrity-oriented, they pretty much leave you alone. But it keeps reaching this new critical mass and now with winning two Grammys, I think it’s getting pretty intense.”

He said Lorde – aka Ella Yelich O’Connor – would be better off moving to New York, where celebrities are in abundance. “There are more famous people and less bother about it. It wouldn’t be a bad move to get among the centre of operations,” he said. But taking to Twitter earlier today, Finn said he didn’t expect the comments to be turned into a headline. “I should know better,” he tweeted to his 21,000 followers. “She doesn’t need my advice.”

Finn will return to Australia in March in support of his third solo album Dizzy Heights (out tomorrow), while Lorde wraps up her Laneway Festival tour in Adelaide and Perth this weekend.

I like how Neil Finn fans on twitter refer to themselves as 'Finnsiders', and just like in european football they occasionally gather for mass streetfights with beliebers

plain views, as one of those fans on twitter, i don't know what the heck you're talking about. but regarding the article, this is so blown out of proportion. it's ridiculous that this is even a story. here's a better story: dizzy heights is out today in some countries, and in others over the next few days! woo hoo!

Sort of related: As a kid I used to get subtitles and credits confused. I could read, I was just lazy and didn't. All I knew was that when a movie/TV show ends, all these words appeared. The first time I watched Star Wars, after I accepted that the film wasn't playing backwards, I thought it was over when the characters walked into the cantina and everyone was speaking alien languages.

In other words, my movie watching abilities were unreFinned.

Sorry, I'm using the Pitchfork marking criteria so your only hope for the perfect 10 was to be Kanye West. The 15 year vinyl reissue will most likely get a 10/10 however.
