Fleetwood Mac's 2013Australian tour cancelled

Fleetwood Mac have cancelled their upcoming tour of Australia/New Zealand.

The band was set to begin their tour at Sydney Entertainment Centre on November 10, playing 14 dates around the country including in Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Melbourne, as well as winery shows in the Hunter Valley and Geelong.

Bassist John McVie, who co-founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967, is reportedly undergoing treatment for cancer. The band announced the news to their nearly three-million fans on Facebook tonight. “We are sorry to not be able to play these Australian and New Zealand dates,” the band posted. “We hope our Australian and New Zealand fans as well as Fleetwood Mac fans everywhere will join us in wishing John and his family all the best.”

Promoter Live Nation wished McVie a “full and speedy recovery”, saying they “regret the disappointment that this announcement will cause for the band’s multitude of Australian fans”. Refunds will be available to all ticket holders from Monday, October 28, at the point of purchase. Tickets booked online or by phone will be refunded automatically

Fleetwood Mac just wound up a European tour in support of their new EP Extended Play. The recording features three new Lindsey Buckingham tracks – ‘Sad Angel’, ‘It Takes Time’ and ‘Miss Fantasy’ – and a revamped version of ‘Without You’, originally written by Stevie Nicks for the Buckingham Nicks project. It’s their first new music since 2003’s Say You Will. “Big, long albums don’t seem to be what everybody wants these days,” Nicks said in a recent Billboard interview.

Fleetwood Mac last toured Australia in 2009.

Wow, hope John recovers ok, best wishes for him and his family...
If he doesn't, I wonder if the Mac would carry on?
Glad I caught the last tour.

I think it would pretty disingenuous to carry on without him, particularly since the band is partly named after him.

A make-up Australian tour with added Christine may actually be the best thing that ever happened to me.
