And your preferred musicianPrime Minister is…

Yesterday we asked you which Aussie musician should be Prime Minister. Your response: A guy who writes depraved sexual fantasies about Kylie and Avril Lavigne, and hasn’t even lived in the country for 32 years.

That’s right, Rolf Harris Grinderman/Bad Seeds frontman Nick Cave is your preferred choice for PM, topping the poll with nearly 41 percent of the vote. His next closest rivals were Tim Rogers (26.32 percent), The Drones’ Gareth Liddiard (10.53 percent), Gotye (6.43 percent) and Flume (4.68 percent). Adalita and Clare Bowditch claimed 3.51 percent of the vote a piece, while Abbe May (1.17 percent) and 360 (2.34 percent) rounded out the list.

Dan Kelly, whose 2006 single ‘Drunk On Election Night’ has become the unofficial anthem of this campaign, was last on your ballot, claiming a measly 0.58 percent (sad face). In the lead-up to tomorrow’s election, an anonymous campaigner has set up a Facebook Page and Twitter account to get Kelly and the Alpha Males’ song about the 2004 election to #1 on the iTunes charts.

Cave topped a similar poll conducted by MySpace Australia (RIP) in the lead-up to the 2010 election, won by former Labor leader Julia Gillard. Cave clinched the top job with almost 20 percent of the vote ahead of Powderfinger’s Bernard Fanning, John Butler, Daniel Johns and Paul Kelly. Dame Edna Everage, Missy Higgins, Jimmy Barnes, Sarah Blasko and Kylie Minogue rounded out the list.

Earlier today, we canvassed 11 Australian musicians on the outcome of tomorrow’s Federal Election. Click here for responses from Urthboy, Holly Throsby, Johnny Mackay from Children Collide, Catcall and Grinspoon’s Phil Jamieson, The Drones’ Dan Luscombe, and more.
