Biffy Clyro vs Trent Reznor:“I think he basically spathis dummy out”

Biffy Clyro singer Simon Neil has hit back at Trent Reznor following an unprovoked Twitter attack by the Nine Inch Nails frontman at Reading Festival last month.

Shortly before taking to the stage for NIN’s 8pm slot, Reznor lashed out at both promoters and Biffy Clyro, who were due to headline the festival at 10pm. “Should be an unusual show tonight at Reading … the lying promoter and the band following us (whoever the fuck they are) fucked us on our production,” Reznor tweeted.

But in an interview with FL’s David Swan today, Neil was quick to call Reznor out. “I think he basically spat his dummy out,” he said. “Nine Inch Nails are a huge band and they’ve been headlining loads of festivals everywhere and I think their manager or someone told him they weren’t headlining Reading and Leeds, god forbid, and he basically spat his dummy out and decided to take it out on us.

“He played with us on the Friday night and there was no problem. He didn’t care about the Leeds bands obviously and he knew damn fine who we were, so I think he was just being obnoxious.”

However, Neil resisted the urge to bite back on Twitter. ”I was dying to tweet back to him all day … but we just wanted to focus on our show. We thought, ‘Well you might not know who we are now, but I guarantee by the end of today you’ll know exactly who we are,’ that was our plan.”

Despite Reznor’s outburst, Neil said the band didn’t take it personally. “We’re not naive, Trent Reznor operates in a different world to the rest of them. He lives in Beverly Hills, he’s won Oscars and all that. And he’s just brought the band back together. So maybe for a split second [we were offended], but to be honest we’ve kind of had enough of that happening through the years that it didn’t bother us so much.”

NINE INCH NAILS WON’T BE JOINING THE SOUNDWAVE LINEUP

Speaking with FL ahead of the band’s visit to Australia for Soundwave 2014, Neil also weighed in on rumours that Eminem had mimed his performance at Reading. “I didn’t see it,” he explained, “but I’ve been informed by a few of my friends that saw it that he was miming loads of it. As I say, that’s second-hand information, but a lot of people were disappointed. There was no camera closeups of him or anything, I think people felt a wee bit let down.”

The full interview with Neil – in which he discusses new Biffy Clyro material and his thoughts on Soundwave – will published on FL soon.

Don't really like Nine Inch Nails all that much, but who on Earth would put Biffy Clyro above them on a lineup. What even is a Biffy Clyro? :\

A band that's bigger than Nine Inch Nails in the UK.

They're also, apparently, a band that can't be found via Google.

If he is actually asking what a Biffy Clyro is, google doesn't have an answer.

One of the various silly stories they've released about their name...

The Scottish trio had previously refused to explain the reasoning behind their moniker, but frontman Simon Neil has now let slip that it was intended as a surreptitious nod to Cliff Richard.

"There's a famous British musician called Cliff Richard," Neil told Spin. "And when me and [drummer] Ben [Johnston] were 13 and bored in our little Scottish town of Ayr, we'd think up imaginary Cliff Richard merch products.

"We thought of things like Cliff Richard coat hangers and Cliff Richard Jesus dolls - he's a big Christian singer. In the UK there's a cheap kind of pen called a Biro pen and we thought about making Cliff Richard Biro pens.

"We'd call them Cliffy Biros. Somehow that turned into Biffy Clyro. Bizarrely, we weren't high at the time. There's just not a lot to do in Ayr. The weather is terrible."

However, Neil went on to say that he does not think the group's name is as bad as several others, adding: "The other night in Switzerland I saw a sticker for a band called Coleslaw. That's an even worse name than Biffy Clyro. Arctic Monkeys is pretty atrocious, but I'm a fan of the band."

tl;dr?

They're a pack of Scottish cunts.

Hrmm well thanks guys. I think you just accidentally created a new music genre called Scottish Cunts. That being said would you still not be mad if some monstrosity called a Cliff Richards Scottish Clyro-Cunt topped you on a bill when you are Trent Reznor god of the non-Scottish cunts? Im still scratching my head, well not really as I said Im not the biggest fan of NIN nor am I all that worried by this, but wait where was I going with this.... ....

Trent is a khunt but he makes up for that by making relevant music.
