Butch Vig teams up with FooFighters for "KILLER newsongs"

The Foo Fighters have teamed up with Nirvana producer Butch Vig for their as-yet-untitled eight studio album.

The band last worked with the Nevermind producer and Garbage founder on the Foo Fighters’ most recent album, 2011’s Wasting Light, which they recorded in Dave Grohl’s multi-million-dollar studio garage. Vig also produced several tracks on the soundtrack to Grohl’s feature film Sound City, including ‘Cut Me Some Slack’, with Nirvana alumnus Krist Novoselic and Pat Smear, and some guy called Paul McCartney. Listen below.

Vig revealed his involvement on the new Foo’s record via Twitter:

Last month, FL’s Doug Wallen spoke to Foo Fighters guitarist Chris Shiflett, who said the band were looking to do something a bit different this time around. “I can’t go into too much detail,” he said, “because they probably don’t want me to, but it’s definitely going to be … I’m excited about it. Dave’s got a bunch of new songs and the way that we’re gonna make the new record – like, the approach for it – is going to be pretty fucking fun. And different.”

It was previously thought fans would be waiting a long time for new Foos material after Grohl put the band on ice in October last year to concentrate on Sound City, and its accompanying soundtrack, which featured the likes of Stevie Nicks, Paul McCartney, Josh Homme and Trent Reznor.
