Big Day Out 2014: Dates andlineup announcement

Big Day Out have been forced to announce their dates early after an event poster accidentally went up early. According to the poster, we can also expect the first lineup announcement on Wednesday, July 31.

The posters were supposed to go up Monday, but one was sneakily accidentally put up early underneath an overpass on Swan Street in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond. The Big Day Out’s director of marketing and PR Johanna Greenway confirmed the dates to themusic.com.au. “Posters were to go up Monday – guess now we’ll put them up everywhere. But at least everyone knows to save the date for line-up announcement,” she said.

Next year’s Big Day Out will kick off on Friday, January 17 in Auckland at its new home at Western Springs, a natural amphitheatre in the inner-city suburb of Grey Lynn. The site, which has hosted the likes of Foo Fighters AC/DC over the years, has space for three stages and 50,000 punters. It’ll next travel to the Gold Coast (January 19), Melbourne (January 24), Sydney (January 26 and 27), Adelaide (January 31) and Perth (February 2). The Gold Coast’s Metricon Stadium appears to be the only venue locked in, with Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Perth all listed as TBC.

Speaking to FL this afternoon Greenway said more information will be revealed on Monday, including announce times and on-sale information.

IS AUSTIN CITY LIMITS A PREVIEW FOR BIG DAY OUT 2013?

Big Day Out 2014 dates:

Friday, January 17- Western Springs, Auckland
Sunday, January 19 – Metricon Stadium, Gold Coast
Friday, January 24 – Venue TBC, Melbourne
Sunday, January 26-27 – Venue TBC, Sydney
Monday, January 27 – Venue TBC, Sydney
Friday, January 31 – Venue TBC, Adelaide
Sunday, February 2 – Venue TBC, Perth

They're doing the two-Sydney-show thing again? Unless they got Pearl Jam to headline, that wont sell.

(They probably got Pearl Jam to headline)

Pearl Jam or The Cure.... or Pearl Jam & The Cure double bill

Yeah I'd put money on Pearl Jam. Seem the only band both possible and big enough.

Metricon is the new venue. Thumbs up. So glad they didn't go with the Race course.

That was announced aaaaages ago. I really don't know how they're going to fit the 6+ stages into the stadium and surrounds.

But I also don't care that much, because Bro Day Out.

Local Adelaide newspaper reported the other day that the BDO organisers are planning to use Bonython Park this year (same venue as Soundwave) rather than the Showgrounds. Presuming the council says yes (and I expect they like money enough to do so) I'm sure this will happen.

You're right, Pearl Jam are pretty underground anyways.

Will be very excited if Pearl Jam are headlining, somehow never caught them on previous tours.

Really? Heavy mainstream radio play, relative amount of indie cred, consistent growing fan base for over 20 years. They're pretty huge. Filled out Sydney Football Stadium on their last tour.

Oh yeah. I would say they were the most popular 90's band to the younger generation of the time. They appealed to more people than Nirvana. Peppers became bigger in the next decade. The girls loved Eddie and the boys wanted to be him.

They are also one of the few bands to grace the cover of this:

In any case, they are one of the biggest bands ever and pretty much guaranteed immediate induction into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame once they are eligible

Carrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrn Kendrick Lamar.

Pearl Jam would easily be enough to get me there. So great on their last tour. I would've thought a headliner was way more likely though because of how long they like to play for?

As somebody who really enjoyed them changing things up a bit with the 2013 lineup, I look forward to what they might do for 2014.

Foo Fighters are my pick to headline, I have nothing to base this on except for them having a new album soon.

tyler07

I agree BC, but you have to admit that there's something intriguing about them booking 2 bands that have never headlined an Australian festival... Could end up being pretty grand.
