Big Scary announce album tour

Big Scary will head out on a national tour this September, to support the release of their new album Not Art. Supported by Courtney Barnett the duo will play shows in all capitol cities, including regional stopovers in Ballarat and Darwin.

After a prolific stint of touring for their first release Vacation, Tom Iansek and Jo Syme took almost nine months to record their second album, the title for of which is a reaction to the pair being labelled “artists”. “In a nutshell, it’s not that Not Art isn’t art,” says Lansek, “it’s just that creating art wasn’t the goal of this album. Thoughts of creating something artful, even something original or catchy were removed from the process.”

Big Scary recently signed a multi-album deal with US label Barsuk Records (home to Death Cab for Cutie), who’ll release the album in the US in September. They’re the first Australian act signed in the label’s 15-year history. “The music that Tom and Jo make together – its intelligence, originality, and sophisticated balance of complexity and accessibility – it’s just too compelling to let geography get in the way,” Barsuk Records co-founder Josh Rosenfeld said. “We’re extremely excited to welcome Big Scary to the family!”
