Harvest 2013 festival lineuprevealed

In just two years, Harvest Festival has brought us the likes of Beck, Sigur Ros, Portishead and The Flaming Lips. So what does promoter AJ Maddah have in store for us in 2013?

Revealed just seconds ago on triple j’s Breakfast show, here’s the first Harvest lineup for 2013:

Massive Attack
Franz Ferdinand
Primus!
Goldfrapp
Neutral Milk Hotel
Desaparecidos (Conor Oberst)
Eels
CSS
The Drones
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Mutemath
M Ward
Superchunk
The Wallflowers
Walk Off The Earth

+more names to come

Three of those names will be of no surprise to FL readers: Neutral Milk Hotel jumped the gun by announcing their tour dates last month The Eels confirmed their place on the bill yesterday while Franz Ferdinand told FL they’ll be touring Australia in November.

Harvest 2013 will take place on November 10 in Melbourne, November 16 in Sydney and November 17 in Brisbane. FL was on the ground at the Melbourne event, which “fixed everything that needed fixing, and retained everything that worked so well” at Harvest’s debut in 2011. “There was a great buzz around the mansion grounds on Sunday,” read our report of Harvest Melbourne at Werribee Park. “If you (somewhat inexplicably) didn’t want to see too much music at a music festival, the Secret Garden contained enough hidden pleasures to pass the time, with burlesque, carnival games and a … guerrilla-style marching band.”

Maddah spoke about the idea behind the boutique festival in an interview with Marcus Teague from The Vine at Face The Music last year. “We wanted Harvest to be a new standard,” Maddah said. “We don’t want to be a festival but a civilised gathering. We wanted to differentiate ourselves.”

Harvest festival tour dates:

Sunday, November 10 -Werribee Park, Melbourne
Saturday, November 16 – The Domain, Sydney NEW VENUE
Sunday, November 17 – Botanic Gardens, Brisbane

The return of G-Mizzle!

I saw today that tickets were $160+. Bit pricey for this lineup IMO when last year seemingly had a fair number of bigger/more popular bands and was only an extra $10.

jacegalvin

jacegalvin said on the 10th Jul, 2013

Yeah I'll probably wait until tax return/second announcement before I get tickets.

Oflick

Oflick said on the 10th Jul, 2013

Same. I like the lineup overall, but it's not good enough to warrant me buying a $160 ticket right now. Hopefully the second announcement will be good. But even if it's not, I'll buy a ticket eventually. I don't want to miss Neutral Milk Hotel.

Go out for a massive bender and then in your tired/spaced out stupor the next morning/day put on Protection and then follow it up with Mezzanine.

I've always thought Massive Attack was the perfect comedown/recovery soundtrack.

If it means comapred to previous bands that had topped previous second announcements then that would be
2011: Tv On The Radio and Mogwai
2012: Silversun Pickups and Dexy's

So naturally it's Bjork and The Knife. ;)

Both Explosions in the Sky and Mew have Asian tours that have huge, harvest-sized gaps in them. Between a fest in Singapore on the 2nd of November and a fest in Malaysia on the 23rd of November, to be exact.

So I guess Shazie is coming ion everything he owns now.

They closed a different stage.

Maybe Primus will close one of the other stages?
Pure speculation at this point but I'm hoping Goldfrapp will be on the main stage too.
