OutsideIn 2013 lineup includesa tribute to The Avalanches

Thom Yorke’s favourite Australian music festival, OutsideIn, will return in September, with an eclectic lineup that includes a “UK bass-enigma”, a group of “Canadian jazz renegades” and a tribute to The Avalanches.

The festival will be headlined by jungle/dubstep/rave/garage/rap maestro Zomby, Madlib collaborator Freddie Gibbs and Canadian trio BadBadNotGood, who joined Frank Ocean on stage at Coachella in 2012 as his backing band. BadBadNotGood have also released two albums featuring original material as well as covers of songs by Kanye West, My Bloody Valentine, James Blake, Waka Flocka Flame, A Tribe Called Quest, and Feist.

The tribute to The Avalanches one (and only) album Since I Left You, featuring acts from the Astral People roster, has been personally approved by The Avalanches themselves, and will make its worldwide debut at OutsideIn. Other local acts on the lineup include Sydney twins Cosmos Midnight, Adelaide’s Oisisma, the collaborative project of Melbourne’s Andras Fox and Oscar Key Sung, and Sydney musician Rainbow Chan, with more to be announced soon.

The line-up was supposed to be unveiled last week, but was postponed following the announcement of Listen Out, the new festival from Parklife promoters Fuzzy. In a statement published on Facebook last week, OutsideIn promoters accused Fuzzy of “ripping off” their logo and concept for Listen Out. But Fuzzy’s John Wall said they had no plans of harming OutsideIn, or encroaching on their turf in any way. “I don’t think that what we are planning with Listen Out is actually anything much like what you are doing with Outside In,” he said in a statement sent to FL, “and I’d say that will become very clear once we announce lineup.”

Curated by Astral People and Yes Please, last year’s OutsideIn festival featured sets from Flume, Smoke DZA, HTRK, Africa Hitech, Oliver Tank, and Collarbones. This year’s event will take over Sydney’s Factory Theatre on Saturday, September 21.

For the most-part I'm quite unfamiliar with this lineup, but seeing the positive reactions makes me want to check out those I don't know.

It is with great sadness that we must announce that due to a family emergency, Knxwledge has cancelled his upcoming Australian tour. The OutsideIn family wishes him and his family all the best, and we hope to see him back in Australia soon.

In his place we are excited to welcome one of Australia's most in demand live acts Hermitude to the OutsideIn Festival line-up! The award winning Sydney duo will be bringing their future beats and world class live show to this year’s festival stage. Weaving between keys, synths, beat pads and turntables their live show explores the old and new, and no doubt will be a crowd favourite at OutsideIn Festival 2013!

We regret to announce that this morning we were informed that UK producer Zomby will not be boarding his flight to Australia and thus will not be appearing at his scheduled shows in Australia this month, including OutsideIn 2013.

As massive fans of his music we're utterly disappointed by this news as we're sure a lot of you guys are as well. We were very much looking forward to seeing him perform on our shores and stage for the first time.

We’re doing all we can to work through this overnight - stay tuned for some good news tomorrow morning.

Not too cut because he probably would've clashed with Gibbs anyway.

Knxwledge would of been alright, but after seeing Hermitude last weekend at FBi 10th Bday, they will add some big party vibes to the day.

That was a fucking fun day. Shame about the massive delays though, had to leave after Freddie Gibbs so I could get the train home still

Really fucking unreal. I saw the video they posted up before and thought the vocals sounded weird, but live they all nailed it. That and BBNG were my 2 fav sets of the day.
