Is Austin City Limits apreview for Big Day Out 2014?

Austin City Limits has dropped its lineup for 2013 – and it’s chock full of acts who are heavily rumoured to tour Australia over the next 12 months and could possibly appear on the bill of sister festival, the Big Day Out.

Described as “next level” by Big Day Out themselves – they also linked to it on their Facebook page – the Austin City Limits lineup has already set tongues wagging on social media. “If you can put together a lineup even half as decent as that for 2014 id be extremely happy BDO,” said one fan.

Acts on the lineup include:

Muse, whose frontman Matt Bellamy said a December tour was on the cards;
The National, who will reportedly co-headline an Australian festival in 2014;
Vampire Weekend, who played this year’s Big Day Out, but told FL “it’s likely” they’ll be touring Australia again soon;
Queens Of The Stone Age, who will be in Australia in 2014, but may bypass the summer festival season altogether;
Phoenix, who told us touring Australia is a priority;
Franz Ferdinand, who told FL they’ll be back in Australia in November; and
Lionel Richie, whose son-in-law Joel Madden lives here. (Can you imagine “Dancing On The Ceiling” at 10pm in the Boiler Room?)

The festival will also feature The Cure, Kings Of Leon, Depeche Mode, Thom Yorke’s Atoms For Peace, Wilco, Kendrick Lamar, D’Angelo, Tame Impala, Danny DeVito’s favourite band Portugal. The Man and Splendour attendees FIDLAR, Haim, Passion Pit, Deap Vally, MS MR and Jake Bugg. Full lineup below.

Austin City Limits will take place over two weekends (October 4-6 and 11-13) at Zilker Park in Austin, Texas. More information here.

Thom_Dorke said on the 7th May, 2013

that's one huge line up. i thought muse and phoenix said they were doing their own tour at the end of this year? fingers crossed for the cure and atoms for peace.

From the article:
Acts on the lineup include:

– Muse, whose frontman Matt Bellamy said a December tour was on the cards;

Phoenix said they'd be touring either at the end of 2013 or beginning of 2014, so that means they might be playing BDO or Falls (BDO seems more likely though). Hope that helps clear things up.

Yep, no way in hell.
DM are playing in Europe from Jan 21st through to end of Feb.

I think The Cure might actually play BDO, but will probably do a sideshow instead if they do...

Id say QOTSA for bdo as well since they are doing ACL and Lolla

shazie said on the 8th May, 2013

Didn't they say they weren't doing a festival but doing their own tour in 2014?

I dont know, I dont actually read articles on here.

ThatDude123 said on the 8th May, 2013

If DM are playing any Australian festival, it'd be either Stone Fest or the token old act at Future

humanracin said on the 8th May, 2013

I doubt DM will tour Australia... ever

redman300_bulldogs said on the 8th May, 2013

2011 was the last decent year of big day out

The Cure would be the most likely. Passion Pit hasn't got any sideshows from splendor yet besides spin off, so maybe. Phoenix in with a chance, as are The National I still believe. Queens of the Stone Age for sure. Arctic Monkeys even. I think Kendrick Lamar would be the only other possible one.
A lot of the smaller acts I don't think would be.

Mabye but missing Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, a few metal/harcore bands, token Australian hardcore band and local acts.

Mitchhh464 said on the 8th Jun, 2013

2011 was the worst year of BDO ever

berlinchair101 said on the 8th Jun, 2013

08 was my least favourite.

needs more...placebo...

KanyeWest said on the 10th Jul, 2013

needs moar k-west, 2012 was the best bdo in history.

tyler07 said on the 10th Jul, 2013

A dream scenario for BDO'14 would be somebody of extreme shit-ness headlining ie Muse clashing with Kendrick Lamar on the Vans stage at the same time. K.dot closing out a stage would be lushhhhhh
