Soundwave 2014: Let the lineupspeculation begin

Soundwave festival boss AJ Maddah has warned fans that the 2014 lineup won’t be as impressive as this year’s bill, which featured over 70 bands including headliners Metallica, Blink 182 and Linkin Park.

“We’re not going to top it,” the promoter revealed on Twitter shortly after the final Soundwave for 2013. “It was our 10th anniversary, so [it was] a one off big show.”

However, Maddah is already looking ahead to the 2014 edition of the festival, confirming acts from America, Sweden, Japan and Denmark for the lineup of the international festival.

Kicking off the long drip-feed of announcements, Maddah has already confirmed that Swedish glam metal band Crashdiet will be part of the 2014 festivities. The announcement came shortly after the band tweeted a photo of an ad for their new album The Savage Playground, which was on display at Soundwave, telling followers, “This is what we call promoting!”

Maddah had already revealed that the 2014 festival will also feature a Japanese stage hosting acts such as X Japan and Maximum The Hormone. The heavy metal crew X-Japan are one of the pioneers of “visual kei” (a Japanese take on glam rock) and reunited in 2007 after a 10-year hiatus. Nu-metal/hardcore punk act Maximum The Hormone were booked to appear at the Soundwave Festival 2010, but were forced to cancel their visit due to drummer Nao’s pregnancy.

Digging even further back into Maddah’s busy Twitter history, there are also several “confirmations” for other acts. In August last year Maddah revealed that Godsmack were supposed to be on the Soundwave 2013 lineup but had to pull out, and have instead been confirmed for the 2014 festival. Danish rock band Volbeat are apparently “almost guaranteed” for the festival, while other acts that Maddah has suggested include the recently reunited Fall Out Boy, Lower Than Atlantis, Don Broco, and Dead By April. Maddah has also cleared up a decade long misunderstanding with Good Charlotte and said they could be invited to play the festival again.

At the other end of the scale, bands including Muse, Yellowcard and Rise Against have been ruled of the 2014 festival. Trivium has also been ruled of a Soundwave festival return as they’ll tour Australia later this year.

So yeah, Soundwave 2013 just finished and I'm already disappointed by the 2014 lineup.

berlinchair101

I know Soundwave is a parallel universe where shitty bands are rated really highly - but surely even in Soundwave land Korn aren't big enough to even co-headline?

Those mangoes would be lucky to fill the Hordern.

Whilst I like the term, what do you have against mangoes?

berlinchair101

berlinchair101 said on the 6th Mar, 2013

Mango is just a funny sounding word. They are also an odd sized and shaped fruit so they always look weird, I think. It gives the right impression of insult without meaning anything ha ha.

I felt like I was calling people cunts too much. BC is going PG. Look ou for other fruit zingers such as banana and plum.

Mangoes are delicious, though.
