Lostprophets "in a state ofshock" after singer's arrest

Welsh act Lostprophets have pulled their website down as details about the criminal charges against lead singer Ian Watkins emerge. The band’s website currently hosts a message from Watkins’ bandmates expressing their shock and thanking their fans for their support.

Watkins has been charged with possessing, making and distributing indecent images of children and with possession of “extreme” animal pornography. The Welsh rock star is also alleged to have conspired with a woman to rape a one-year-old girl. He and two women, who can not be named for legal reasons, will appear in Cardiff Crown Court to face the charges on December 31. Watkins’ barrister has indicated that he will deny the charges.

Lostprophets toured Australia earlier this year on the Soundwave festival tour, playing sideshows in Sydney and Melbourne with Kids in Glass Houses and VersaEmerge. Soundvave promoter AJ Maddah has expressed his shock over the charges tweeting that Watkins “seemed like such a sweet guy” and that while the alleged crimes are “pretty disturbing if true” he’ll reserve his judgement until more details come to light.

Full statement from Lostprophets:

Following charges made today against Ian Watkins, we find ourselves in a state of shock. We are learning about the details of the investigation along with you. It is a difficult time for us and our families, and we want to thank our fans for their support as we seek answers. Jamie, Lee, Luke, Mike and Stu

I dont even know the band but that's pretty horrendous news. It's a shame we have to hear about it just because he's linked to the music industry.

that 1 year old is just a rumour. it's actually 13 year old.

The charge is "conspiring to rape a girl under 13". That child under the age of 13 is one year old.

interesting that the other 5 members of the band have immediately distanced themselves from their leader.

it's a wonder they haven't announced an immediate disbandment.

Lostprophets singer Ian Watkins has issued a statement denying allegations made against him as his child sex case was adjourned.

The statement, issued on behalf of Ian Watkins by his solicitor Sarah Williams-Martin of Watkins & Gunn Solicitors reads: "Mr Watkins furiously denies all of the charges and allegations made. He intends to fight to the bitter end to clear his name. He wishes to thank the fans, family and friends for the constant love and support they have given and continue to give throughout this testing time."

Watkins, who appeared in Cardiff Crown Court today (March 11) via video link from Parc Prison in Bridgend, will appear in court again in May, the BBC reports. He has been remanded in custody since December and is accused of several child sexual offence charges, including conspiracy to rape a baby and four offences relating to possession and distribution of indecent images of children.

A 24-year-old woman has been charged with the same offences as Watkins. A 20-year-old woman is charged with five of the same offences but not conspiracy to rape. The alleged offences date from May to December 2012. The case has now been adjourned until the week commencing May 20. No pleas were entered.

The disgraced frontman of Welsh band Lostprohpets has been sentenced to 35 years in jail for child sex offences, in one of the most horrific court cases anywhere in the world this year.

After pleading guilty last month to 13 sex offences, including charges of infant rape, Ian Watkins received 29 years jail with six on licence and will be eligible parole after serving two thirds of his sentence.

The BBC report that the two women implicated in the case, mothers who also plead guilty to child abuse charges, were sentenced to 14 and 17 years. They are aged 21 and 24 and cannot be named.

Amongst his charges, Watkins pled guilty to the attempted rape and sexual assault of a child under the age of 13. He pleaded not guilty to rape.

In delivering the sentence Justice Royce said, %u201CThose who have appeared in these courts over many years, see here, a large number of horrific cases. This case breaks new ground. Any decent person%u2026 will experience shock, revulsion and incredulity.%u201D

The Senior Investigating Officer Chief Inspect Peter Doyle %u2013 a 28-year veteran %u2013 said this investigation brought to light %u201Cthe most disturbing child abuse evidence%u201D he had seen.

According to The Mirror there were cheers in the public gallery when the sentence was handed down, while Watkins was observed to be physically shaking.

Watkin%u2019s 35-year charge will see the first 29 in jail and the second six in the community under license, which if breached would see him immediately returned to jail. The license will begin one he is released from prison, be it at the end of the 29 years or on parole after two-thirds of his sentence are served. Extended sentences such as this are, in the UK, reserved for offenders deemed particularly dangerous.

Earlier this week it emerged that Watkins may stand to earn $185,000 in royalties while in prison, as his offences do not relate to his music.

Entertainment lawyer Craig Brookes told Wales On Sunday, via The Independent, that %u201CThe biggest income stream will almost certainly be publishing which, even if radio play has stopped, will still be pretty big.

%u201CThey will say %u2018This is how much music is in the market place so it is likely you are due this amount%u2019. He will also get a publishing cut for any play Lostprophets have anywhere.%u201D

He added, %u201CThe records could be earning a substantial amount. It could easily have translated to 100,000 or 200,000 extra sales.

%u201CIt could be over 100,000 easily. It could be less but there will be another spike when he gets sentenced, in terms of money generated %u2013 because of clips when the story breaks, then there will be a spike in online activity.%u201D

The fall out of the horrific case has seen the band, once one of Wales%u2019 top rock music exports, spit in shock, and saw Ian H Watkins, a member of the pop group Steps, become the victim of online abuse.

And now the cunt can rot in hell

Did you really expect him to have any? U can't write something like this off as an "oh fuck I'm so sorry, I was having a bad day/week/year/life" incident. The sick fuck enjoys what he does. I hope the cuunt 'enjoys' prison.

By "remorse" I meant that it's not even as if he knows deep down that he was traumatising these poor infants and felt guilty inside as what may be with some other pedophiles who "gave in". He didn't, and still doesn't, care for them and just saw them as toys.
