Coachella on a boat!

In December the inaugural voyage of S.S. Coachella will set sail from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on December 16 for a three-day cruise to the Bahamas with Pulp, Hot Chip, Girl Talk, Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, Grimes, Cloud Nothings, El-P, Killer Mike, the Rapture, Simian Mobile Disco, !!!, Warpaint, and more including a wine tasting session hosted by James Murphy of LCD Soundsystem.

And in even better news, festival promoter Paul Tollett has told the New York Times that “Some sets will be longer than usual [as] We don’t have a curfew” – international waters for the win!

The 1,000-foot, 122,000-ton ship with room for 2,800 fans features a small theatre that has been described as a “mini Royal Albert Hall.” The ship also had half-acre of grass on deck because, as the promoters note, “It wouldn’t be Coachella without grass.” Prices start at $500 a person and go up to $9,000 a person for a “sky suite”.

It certainly beats the Australian version of the Rock Cruise that’s due to leave shore in October next year.

I think $500 as a minimum ticket price is going to have an interesting effect on the audience demographics.

Needs more desert. I'm sure there is a good seamen joke to be had about the cruise.

Needs more Lonely Island, just so they can sing that one song

I love that line up. I'm tempted to sell a kidney, or maybe a kid.

$500 isn't bad considering it includes accommodation and meals (actually they hit you up with $200 for taxes, meals, gratuities if you read the fine print).

but hey, splendour is costing me $750 and i have to buy my own burritos and walk 2km to my hotel.
