Updated: Lamb of God frontmanarrested for manslaughter

Updated: 2 July
Lamb of God frontman Randy Blythe has reportedly been arrested in Prague on manslaughter charges.

According to a report posted by the Czech news site Novinky, the singer was arrested prior to a gig a the Rock Café on charges stemming from an incident that occurred when the band was last in Prague on May 24, 2010.

Details are hazy (especially as they’re filtered though the magic of Google translate) but according to the article a spokeswoman for Prague police has announced that “We have arrested singer year 1971, which was accused of a crime of bodily harm in the 4th paragraph, thus resulting in death”

Metal Sucks has reported that “Allegedly, a fan lept on stage during the show, resulting in a physical altercation with the frontman. The fan eventually succumbed to his injuries and died, leading to the charges Blythe now faces.”

Lamb of God’s publicity firm Adrenaline PR has declared that Blythe has been “wrongfully accused, lawyers are dealing with it, and we expect him to be fully exonerated.”

Metal Sucks reports that Blythe has been released on bail of four million Czech crowns (about $200,000 US), which is equivalent to Blythe’s yearly salary. Blythe has not made a statement but Lamb of God’s guitarist Willie Adler has said that “It’s been a rough couple of days. All I can say is that I can’t recall that particular show let alone a fan being beaten on the stage. I think I would’ve noticed something like that considering the Dime thing. We’re all still here in the Czech Republic awaiting what is to happen. We hope we’ll be able to get Randy out this afternoon. All our thoughts are with him as well as the family of the deceased fan. We’ve no real clue as to what happened to him, but we send our condolences. All we try to do is entertain; the fans are why we’re here. We would never try and harm anyone.”

The band’s management will be issuing an official statement on Monday regarding the charges and have already issued a brief note to “address today one false piece of information that has been included in many of the news stories released so far. Under no circumstances was there a fight of any kind involved. This incident deals with a fan that three times during the concert jumped the barricade and rushed Randy during the performance. It is alleged that the third time, security was not able to reach him and that Randy pushed him back into the audience where supposedly he fell and hit his head. Again, until the investigation is concluded this weekend, nothing more will be released, but clarity and the facts needed to be addressed on this one reported point which is totally inaccurate.”

Metalzone TV has posted this video footage which they claim shows the the incident:

Why go back to the Czech Republic if you killed someone there?

Nosyt said on the 29th Jun, 2012

Eastern European women and/or to do it again

inb4 people blindly assume he's innocent because they like his band...

Nosyt said on the 29th Jun, 2012

I presumed his innocents because of, you know, the presumption of innocence?

i cant wait for someone to make a link between metal music and violence.

Inb4 people blindly assume he's guilty because acknowledging that police can make mistakes hurts their brains.

Braveheart81 said on the 29th Jun, 2012

I'm disappointed that no one has found a youtube video of the incident.

I'm disappointed AJ hasn't blamed the carbon tax for this yet.

seriously!!!!!!!!!!! get a life...why are you a member on faster louder if you don't like metal. because rap and pop is much better right? read what happened instead of being so presumptuous. it has nothing to do with the music, but more to do with a crazed fan and security.

You are the crazediest of crazed fans.

this is apparently video of the incident

Braveheart81 said on the 2nd Jul, 2012

Wow... so the guy ended up dying from that?

Presumably there was no one there to catch him and he hit his head on the ground. Hard to work out how he could have died from his injuries otherwise.

tyler07 said on the 2nd Jul, 2012

So he threw a stage invader/crowd surfer back into the crowd? I hardly think that puts you up for manslaughter...

There are too many conflicting reports going around as well. For instance, one punter report states that Randy beat the shit out of him on stage and then pushed him off the stage or something. That video footage would not support that.

Extremely unfortunate that this has happened but security are often there to push people back into the crowd (as you can see in the video, presumably the other person is a security guard/crew member). It's a risk you take with that sort of behavior.

Braveheart81 said on the 2nd Jul, 2012

If the guy landed on his head and then died, then yes, it would certainly warrant a manslaughter charge.

Whether or not he would be found guilty would be another matter.

Manslaughter doesn't need to involve intent.

Oflick said on the 2nd Jul, 2012

By definition, manslaughter doesn't involve intent (intent to kill, at least). So saying there is no intent won't really be a defence. Of course, I guess it all depends on the local laws.

Looking at that video and reading the few reports I would say he shouldn't be found guilty, but we won't know until the final verdict.

There should be charges of crimes against humanity for being in Lamb of God
