Black Keys recording newalbum, suing advertisers anddissing other bands

As part of his ongoing campaign to baffle Triple M listeners, The Black Keys’ drummer Patrick Carney has launched another round of attacks on rock dinosaurs this time taking aim at Van Halen and Black Sabbath.

Just a few months on from telling Rolling Stone that “Rock & roll is dying because people became OK with Nickelback being the biggest band in the world”, Carney has returned to the magazine’s pages to declare that Van Halen are “obviously motherfucking assholes” and that he has no “interest in seeing bands with partial lineups”.

The drummer for the duo known to some as “Nickelback for hipsters”, asked What the fuck is the point [of Van Halen]? I mean, sure, Eddie Van Halen’s son is a pretty good bass player and he’s a 20-year-old kid and that’s cool, but like, what the fuck is that? That’s fucking retarded.” He also throw in a review of dance music telling Rolling Stone “I don’t understand it… I don’t know who listens to that kind of music, instrumental versions of LMFAO or whatever.”

LMAFO, Van Halen and Nickelback aren’t the only folk felling the wrath of The Black Keys at the moment. The band has also sued Pizza Hut and Home Depot copyright-infringement after running commercials that feature tracks that “prominently feature significant portions” of the songs Gold on the Ceiling and Lonely Boy.

Those advertisers will have more Black Keys material to consider ripping-off very soon as the band is planning to return to the studio next month. After reviewing Van Halen, Carney told Rolling Stone that he and Dan Auerbach are “going back in the studio in July. We’ll have a couple weeks to start the next album then… We don’t know when we’ll be done but we’re starting it in July. We might not finish it until March since we have to tour so much but we’ll see.”

So it looks like there’s a good chance that we’ll hear some new songs in the setlists (in addition to the songs from Brothers and El Camino ) when the band finally returns to Australia in October.

"he has no %u201cinterest in seeing bands with partial lineups%u201d." - ironic since patrick carney and dan auerbach are themselves a partial lineup.... anybody else sick of these "2-piece bands" that require atleast 3 more in addition to play live?

Braveheart81 said on the 25th Jun, 2012

It is only since 2010 that the Black Keys have toured with additional members.

The rest of their career they have played live as a two piece.
