Keith Moon invited to play atthe London Olympics?!

The Who’s Roger Daltrey has confirmed that the London Olympics organisers tried to book Keith Moon to perform at the 2012 opening ceremony.

Daltrey was quizzed about the bizarre request during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! and revealed that “It could only happen in Britain. We are so organised. We got a letter – well, an email – requesting could Keith Moon attend the opening ceremony and our manager sent an email back saying, ‘Well actually he currently resides at Golders Green Crematorium, where he’s been for the last 35 years! But maybe if you got a round table, some letters and some glasses, you might be able to get him back!’”

The band’s manager Bill Curbishley had told the Sunday Times about the request last month so somehow we did miss the first run of this news by about a month, but that still puts us several decades ahead of the London Olympics committee when it comes to breaking news.

As for the musical lineup that will actually playing at the London Olympics – Duran Duran, Snow Patrol, Paolo Nutini and Stereophonics will play a show in London’s Hyde Park to mark the start of the Olympics on July 27, while Blur, New Order and The Specials will play a show on August 12 as an accompaniment to the opening ceremony. (No prizes for guessing which one of those shows we’re gutted to be missing.)

If I was making a movie about Roger Daltrey, I'd definitely get Glenn Close to play him.

Maybe they could just have 21 exploding drum-kits, in place of the Queen's traditional 21 gun salute
