Shock! Kele not kicked out ofBloc Party

Remember that story about how a distraught Kele had gone running to tell NME that he’d been kicked out of Bloc Party? And how it looks like a beat up? Well guess what – it was!

The story has now been outed as a joke, but yesterday NME ran another story about the ‘news’ under the sensationalist headline “Bloc Party confirm they will be auditioning new singers” claiming that lead guitarist Russell Lissack told them that “It’s not really a secret [that Kele has been kicked out of the band] because Kele’s been pretty busy doing solo stuff and it looks like he’s going to be doing that a bit longer.”

Lissack also joked that “The other three of us wanted to meet up and make music. We were talking about just doing an instrumental thing, but now we might get a singer as well, to properly put some music out and play some shows.” Interesting that “might get a singer” quickly became “confirm they will be auditioning new singers”, huh?

Anyway, the band has now decided that the joke has gone on long enough and revealed that it was all part of a prank. The band’s official site and Kele’s site now both declare that “Bloc Party is still Bloc Party” with a Simpson-ised picture of the whole band. Phew!

Not that I want to see Bloc Party change at all, but Kele should be kicked out of everything after releasing that solo shite.

maybe this band should try to get people's attention by making music instead stupid-noonereallycares jokes.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

(ohh and I've read that nme article yesterday, and it didn't actually stated that the 3 guys were auditioning for a singer for bloc party, so it could have been for a sideproject)

Hey dude, chill the fuck out. Bloc Party look to be moving forward and they expose NME for the joke it is. Win-win.

they seemed to have found it funny, do they need to get people's attention with every move they make? they seem to be doing alright as it is

after this fiasco NME has already written their review for Bloc Party's next album and given it a 4/10 calling it "the album that left us begging for another saviour of rock music" after which they'll unveil the next saviour of rock music reinstating their relevance in the media for that week.

NME aren't as stupid as people think they are. they have it all planned out.

Intimacy is a solid album, but I think that's the first time I've ever heard somebody say it's better than Silent Alarm. Then again it is Davey...

Intimacy vs. Silent Alarm is a toss of the coin for me. I listened to Intimacy a lot more than Silent Alarm when it came out but I'd probably go back to Silent Alarm more. Weekend in the City a distant 3rd

Intimacy barely rises above the level of "alright".

It is by no means a great record.

Is it a timing and age thing?

How much did you listen to Silent Alarm when it came out when you were 13 or thereabouts?

Faris

Faris said on the 29th Sep, 2011

silent alarm is for sure one of the best albums of the last decade. intimacy is a far cry from the brlliance of silent alarm. anyone who says anything otherwise is either 17 or has serious hearing problems.

....uniform is my favourite bloc party song..

I like them best in the order they came out.

And it's a sharp drop in interest from A Weekend in the City to Intimacy.
