EASTSIDE RADIO PRESENTS:
Sirens Big Band at LIVE @ 505
Eastside Radio presents their Live @ 505 that takes place every second Thursday of the month, where we showcase local Australian musicians and Djs at 505, 280 Cleveland St Surry Hills.
This December Eastsideâs Live @ 505 will be taken over by 17-piece, all-female ensemble Sirens Big Band.
Founding members Jessica Dunn (bass) and Harriet Harding (saxophone) formed the band in 2009 in a direct response to the under-representation of women in the jazz music community. Featuring a host of some of Australiaâs strongest and most exciting young, female musicians and improvisors the band explores the intersection of jazz with South Indian, afro-beat, Balkan, Ethiopian and reggae music.
In a short time Sirens have enjoyed considerable success, establishing themselves as a vital and innovative addition to the Australian jazz community. Their resume includes working with Lanie Lane, Jeff Duff and Dan Barnett; as well as performing at the Sydney Festival, The Darling Harbour Jazz and Blues Festival and the Manly Jazz Festival.
âThis all-female jazz ensembleâ¦can roar as one like an Ethiopian lion or fly like a bullet train, and yet also bristles with world-class soloists who are given free rein to blow and blow and blow.
âOrange Press
Performing songs from their upcoming debut album âKali and the Change of Timeâ Live @ 505 will come alive with the Sirensâ sound! 17 young, talented, female musicians all under the one roofâ¦
Who could ask for more!
