Genre-busting singer and Triple J Next Crop artist ELANA STONE, returns from a victory at Rockwiz to launch her new album Your Anniversary.
The Elana Stone band began recording Your Anniversary in 2006. It was a 3 year quest. During this time the band survived a series of triumphs and upheavals, from a self-styled tour of Europe to a break up, a marriage and a failed attempt by the lead singer to move to Melbourne. But like Fleetwood Mac, the chain kept them together.
Each member is ferociously capable and creative. Elanas songwriting centres on her powerful, flexible voice, ranging from blazing, Janis Joplin style soul, rock and roll, and Joni Mitchell-esque piano balladry. Aaron Flowers (Vince Jones) lyrical guitar work gives the sound a heart-wrenching quality. Lifelong friend Zoe Hauptmanns (Coda, King Curly) supportive bass playing and backing vocals fit like a glove, leaving Evan Mannell (Bertie Blackman, Faker) room to flex his astonishingly creative drumming.
The Elana Stone band have appeared at festivals around Australia including the Perth International Arts Festival, The Sydney Festival, Melbourne International and Fringe Festivals. They have supported such artists as Holly Throsby, Bluejuice and Kate Miller-Heidke. Last year, Elana was headhunted by Australian rock icon Deborah Conway and toured Australia with Broad, the acclaimed all female singer-songwriter extravaganza.
In addition, Elana has proven herself to be a capable co-writer and session performer, recording songs like Hermitudes Triple J hit duet Your Call with Urthboy last year, and handpicked as a backing vocalist for Harry Angus Cat Empire offshoot, Jackson Jackson.
Your Anniversary explores a huge range of genres and emotional dynamics with expansive country ballads like the beautiful Koskys Song sitting comfortably next to the repressed sexual energy of rock songs like Slippery Slidey and New Life.
