Spectacular Northcote Revue Show
In what promises to be the hottest show this month, The Woohoo Revue are back from three months of hard touring to launch their CD, Dear Animals, with a spectacular Revue Show at the Northcote Social Club on Friday 29 May.
The band are excited to host a unique night that will be a far cry from the average pub gig. As well as their own brand of rockin’ carnivalesque music, the show will feature the infectious old-time minstrelsy of Flap and an enchanting collection of circus characters, including Asking For Trouble and Teacup Tumble, performing a range of vaudeville and acrobatic acts.
The Woohoo Revue’s new album Dear Animals has already been received strongly and has attracted airplay on Triple J, ABC, as well as community radio stations across the country. Like their live show, the album is full, frantic and features incredible musical feats. As a first LP, Dear Animals is an uncompromising, intense gypsy dance album that presents some iconic and powerful versions of traditional tunes. It’s not music made for iPods, it is social music. Every song holds such a strong sense of occasion.
Whilst most bands can easily be described as a combination of two or three other groups’ The Woohoo Revue have prompted journalists throughout the country to scratch their heads in confusion. According to one pundit, ‘They are an instrumental gypsy folk band, a German oompah outfit, a wild-west fiddle contest and a roaring 20s swing band rolled into one; only sped up by a factor of ten’.
Although it might be hard to describe what the band is doing, their roaring, bustling sound and hard-partying performances are quickly winning punters over one sweaty show at a time. In the last two months the band has toured NSW, the ACT, Victoria, SA and Tasmania and like a religious revival show, has converted whole rooms over to the Woohoo way. In essence, The Woohoo Revue perform music for celebration- for dancing, drinking, and forgetting about tomorrow, a concept that Australian audiences have a good handle on.
The group has a very heavy touring schedule for the remainder of 2009, so expect to hear more from them throughout the year.
