Final Fantasy

Billions Australia are pleased to announce the very first Australian tour for Canadian native Owen Pallett’s, Final Fantasy with dates in Melbourne, Sydney and Perth in December.

Pallet’s live violin-looping project was named Final Fantasy, in tribute to the melodramatic videogame series. After playing shows around his hometown of Toronto in 2005 Final Fantasy scored a last minute tour with a then-unknown Arcade Fire and from there recorded his debut album “A Good Home” (in six days), to critical acclaim. The follow up Final Fantasy record “He Poos Clouds” was voted by journalists as the inaugural Polaris Prize for best Canadian full-length album in 2006.

“He Poos Clouds” was written and arranged entirely for string quartet, and is a satirical song cycle based on the eight schools of magic according to Dungeons and Dragons.

The Village Voice praised it as having “the best lyrics of the year”, Pitchfork described it as “a joy to hear… this is, in a word, fierce—it can engage you on a level most albums can’t”, and many publications put it in their top ten lists for the year. Canadian journalists voted and awarded it the inaugural Polaris Prize for best Canadian full-length album.

In addition to curating the Maximum Black Festival in early 2008, Owen has been touring constantly while writing string and orchestral arrangements for many releases, including Arcade Fire’s “Neon Bible”, Grizzly Bear’s “Yellow House”, Beirut’s “The Flying Club Cup” and The Last Shadow Puppets’ “The Age of the Understatement”. Final Fantasy has contributed songs to David Shrigley’s “Worried Noodles”, Stereogum’s “Enjoyed: A Tribute to Bjork’s Post”, and Tomlab’s Alphabet Series X. Owen is currently working on a series of conjoined releases that contain narratives that are set in the fictional kingdom of Spectrum. These releases include two EPs—one of Spectral field recordings the other a big band tribute to songwriter Alex Lukashevsky of the band Deep Dark United—and the forthcoming full-length romance album “Heartland”.

Don’t miss Owen Pallet’s one man band, Final Fantasy in Australia this December. See below for dates and ticketing details.
