Description:

TRIPLE J and INTHEMIX present…
The Yacht Club DJs Batten Down the Hatches Tour with very special guests DZ and Howl

Crowd-pleasing mash-up duo the Yacht Club DJs are back after a string of manic music festival performances. Late last year, the pair took their infectious brand of sugar pop infused with hardcore, punk and hip hop mashes on the road, selling out their national Kleptomania Tour.

Starting the 2009/10 summer festival season with a bang, the boys returned to the stage that broke them for an unprecedented set at the Meredith Music Festival. Few artists are ever asked to return to the stage two years in a row and the Yacht Club DJs did not disappoint the thousands of eager punters who packed the amphitheatre for their electric performance.

Over New Years, punters delighted in their experimental sounds at Falls Festival Tasmania and Field Day in Sydney. Crowds also flocked to see the pair as they headed west for Southbound. They recently joined The Smith’s Andy Rourke and Philadelphia Grand Jury on the Club NME Tour and are playing the national Groovin The Moo festival in May.

Heralded the saviours of the mash-up genre, this March the pair will emerge from playing underground club gigs and take their rightful place behind the decks in some of Australia;s foremost music venues. Prepare to storm the stage as the Yacht Club DJs tear apart your favourite songs and smash them back together into a cleverly crafted remix. And of course, a Yacht Club DJs show would not be complete without on-stage nudity, crowd invasions, dancing on the decks and wild water sports, including riding the waves of the crowd on an inflatable boat.

Ready to join the party is Brisbane monster duo DZ and young indie rockers Howl.

With a sound likened to The Bronx meets DFA 1979, DZ have turned heads with their refreshingly palatable gritty indie sound. Triple J Unearthed High winners Howl have left the classroom, played summer festivals all over the country and released their debut EP, with their single Blackout receiving high rotation on Triple J. The fellow Ballarat act will promote their self-titled EP on the Batten Down the Hatches Tour.

‘Back at the Fire stage was Ballarat’s own Yacht Club DJs … I’ve always missed these guys, and even though the time I finally catch them is on this big, spacious stage, they still created this hype and energy as if playing a tiny club.’

‘You could have powered Melbourne from the amount of energy in the room… By close of business, there were 50 people on stage, women were sweating (not glowing), dudes were shirtless and sweating, there was condensation dripping from the roof and people’s shoes were grimy beyond recognition. And, there had been crowd surfing atop an inflatable replica of the Endeavour.’

’(They are) not so much a band as a two-man premium party-starting machine. Seriously, if these guys were from NYC or Peru we’d fall over ourselves to get them to Meredith.’
