Proudly presented by ACTTAB and the ACT Government, Celebrate in the Park is one of the Canberra Festival’s flagship event, and be held on the Saturday of the festival finale weekend.
This year Canberra’s birthday party boasts a huge line-up of some of the nation’s most popular and talented performers. Headlining the concert is the famous Fremantle trio, Eskimo Joe, the fabulous and funky Cassie Davis, and rock legends Dragon. Local acts Manilla Green, The Trivs and Who’s Ya Daddy will also perform at this electrifying show at Stage 88 in Commonwealth Park.
It wouldn’t be a real birthday party without a fun-filled show for the kids. Making his debut this year under the Little Big Top is Roary the Racing Car. Roary will be making several appearances throughout the afternoon so everyone will all get the chance to see TV’s most popular little racing car. There will also be fun and games in the Park with face painting, rides and amusements, fun activities and games, and much more.
Back by popular demand are the daredevils from Monster Park, Sydney, who will
show off their gravity defying skateboarding and BMX stunts. There will also be opportunities for local adrenaline junkies to participate in workshops throughout the afternoon.
Bring your picnic or select from a tempting variety of food and beverages on sale in the park. Local wineries and breweries will also be selling some of their finest wines and boutique beers. Chief Minister Jon Stanhope will also be coming along to cut Canberra’s giant birthday cake.
To cap off a huge day’s entertainment, after dark the sky above Commonwealth Park will light-up with a spectacular fireworks display that’s not to be missed. Celebrate in the Park is Canberra’s best free all-ages show so be sure you don’t miss the party in 2010.
