Despite a succession of line-up changes, the Brian Jonestown Massacre has always had *Anton Newcombe at its core. The infamous tearaway has seen the group through 13 albums over 15 years, culminating in this year’s full-frontal assault My Bloody Underground. Each offering has a fiercely maverick spirit, constantly re-shaping the psych-rock template.
Onstage, Newcombe is as unpredictable as he is on record. The band’s last Australian tour was marked by his explosive nature – even resulting in a few kicked heads. But you don’t go to a Brian Jonestown Massacre show to be serenaded.
