In the past 12 months USvsTHEM has housed some of the most unconventional shows this city has seen; Pulling together bands that we never imagined would share a stage voila Witch Hats vs Children Collide and YACHT (USA) vs Love of Diagrams, Encouraging people to ditch fashion for substance, Reminding people that you don’t have to drink $5 drinks next to a 15 year old just to see a band in the city, Running out of a room that is more like a warehouse than a traditional band room.
To celebrate one year USvsTHEM is pulling a trifecta; 3 totally different line ups starting on May 9th with a sweaty rock ‘n’ roll set by The Vasco Era then turning French on May 16th with Young Lovers and returning to their roots on the finale May 23rd with a Baseball and Grey Daturas in a double header. Of course each night will begin and end with the USvsTHEM all star DJs.

BASEBALL
‘’Baseball are the quintessential Melbourne band circa 2007, fusing urgent punk with hypnotic Eastern European violins into a unique sound. Like the Cramps being shoved in a blender with the Dirty Three, their shows are manic and messy but not to be missed!” – Patrick Donovan, The Age Music Writer. Formed in Edinburgh, in 2002 – Baseball is the project of Thick Passage (Ninetynine, ex-Sandro) who fronts the band on vocals and rhythm violin, joined by Monika Fikerle (Love of Diagrams) on bass. Later joined by members of Pikelet and The Assassination Collective, Baseball have toured 18 countries in the last 2 years, and shared a stage with with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Les Savy Fav, Sleater Kinney and The Hold Steady to name a few.
Fresh from the release of their long awaited debut album, Animal Kingdom mastered by John Golden (Sonic Youth, Chris Isaak in California), Baseball are driving the USvsTHEM birthday finale party with Grey Daturas. Friday 23rd May.
GREY DATURAS
Grey Daturas are an improvising, instrumental trio with no songs or melodies; they don’t rehearse; yet they maintain a touring ethos to match that of early hardcore pioneers. Playing to sell out crowds the countrywide, Grey Daturas are fresh from touring their latest album, Return To Disruption. Grey Daturas join Baseball and Fait Accompli to close the USvsTHEM 1st Year Birthday party on Friday May 23.
FAIT ACCOMPLI (Syd)
Fait Accompli crashed the Sydney music scene in October 2006. At the time Emo was now Scremo and Indie kids were swapping their knits for Neon, not very much punk attitude in sight. The under the radar music community was in a pretty average state. They arrived fierce and hungry for some action. And not too long after a reaction is what they got. Fait Accompli smashed shows, their gear and their livers with a straight forward Progressive Indie Jam Punk Rock Monster of a sound that would eventually inspire and help propel many a band from out of the darkness and onto what is now the very solid sound of the Sydney Underground. Fait Accompli are the only interstate band to join the USvsTHEM birthday celebrations. Friday May 23 with Baseball and Grey Daturas.
