Canberra’s biggest two-day music festival hits the grounds of the University of Canberra on the 26th & 27th of October.
Stonefest is spread across four stages this year, featuring:
Icon. National treasure. Australia’s greatest songwriter. Those are the kind of labels often used to describe PAUL KELLY, who’ll be performing at Stonefest on Saturday. THE WAIFS, who on the back of a new album will be gracing the Stonefest stage with their special blend of sweet folk harmonies and rock sensibility.
With a new album on the way and a single already on national high rotation, New Zealand’s SCRIBE will be getting the crowd bouncing on Friday’s Superstage. CUT COPY, who are are considered by many as luminaries in bridging the gap between indie and electronica. Added to this is the duo of TV ROCK, who’ve made Australian audiences flaunt it for the past year, and AQUASKY all the way from the UK, delivering their own wild musical party ride straight out their record bags.
To mix things up more, we’ve also added the electronic delights of local duo KARTON, on the eve of their debut album, who will delight the Canberra audience with a unique blend of chemical breaks and quirky rhythms.
Across from the Tasman are the fast and furious THE MINT CHICKS who deliver a certain rawness in a live performance. On a similar note, prepare for the fury of YOUNG & RESTLESS, and 60s inspired pop sounds of BELLES WILL RING will transfix all. In the midst of this we’ve thrown in EXPATRIATE, who no doubt will open your ears with their thrilling rock experimentations.
Canberra’s bonafide masters of turntable and rhyme D’OPUS & ROSHAMBO. Having just reformed Australian hip hop pioneers Fonke Knomaads, DJ SOUP brings his select blend of special super secret vinyl spice. King of the bootydrumnbreaks TYPHONIC, brings his new MC SPEX along for the ride. Added to this are bonafide local gods of raaawk — TONK.
CHRIS HASKETT takes his experience as Rollins Band’s guitarist into something entirely different: a journey through sounds (collected from years of touring the globe) on two turntables. Festival favorites BUTTERFINGERS throw everything (bar the kitchen sink) into a live performance.
