Coopers Alive Folk'n'Roots

Showcase

It’s Folk ‘n’ Roots, Folks

What do you get when you put three of SA’s hottest roots/folk acts together in the one night? Coopers Alive Folk/Roots showcase, of course!

With Coopers Alive promising a total of four different showcases over the weekend of Friday 25 & Saturday 26 July, this particular one will stand apart as the number one choice for all lovers of roots & folk music. The Wheatsheaf on Saturday 26 July will be the place to go to get acquainted with three of Adelaide’s very best roots acts, boasting the talents of The Huckleberry Swedes, The Fiddle Chicks and Cookie Baker.

After again scooping this years SA Folk Awards, including Most Outstanding Act (07&08), Best CD Release (Out the Window, Over the Gate) and Most Outstanding Instrumentalist (Emma Luker, 06,07&08), The Fiddle Chicks have been invited to represent all folks folky, along with APRA’s 2008 Emily Burrows Award winners, The Huckleberry Swedes, and Mixmasters Records’ latest sensation Cookie Baker (nominated for Best Music at this year’s Adelaide Fringe Awards for her sold-out show ‘Dark Horse in an Ivory Veil’) on the Coopers Alive SA Music Showcase Event.

None of these acts are strangers to playing live, from small intimate clubs to festival stages. Cookie has opened shows for Augie March, Ben Lee, Old Man River, Little Birdy, The Audreys and Kate Miller-Heidke. The Huckleberry Swedes’ are currently packing their bags for an eastern states tour in late August which will include The Gympie Music Muster. Their travels have also taken them to Byron Bay Blues And Roots Festival and Apollo Bay Music Festival in recent months and The Fiddle Chicks started this year performing at Woodford Folk Festival to packed houses, and then again at The National Folk Festival!

This gig is part of the Coopers Alive showcase weekend, showing off the rich talent, enthusiasm, innovation and diversity of some of Adelaide’s most celebrated live acts, featuring in four top SA venues (Wheatsheaf Hotel, Jive, The Jade Monkey and the Crown & Sceptre) over 2 huge nights.

To celebrate this collaboration, the three acts from The Wheatsheaf line-up have put together a sampler CD featuring some previously un-released tracks which will only be available for the first 25 paying guests on the night, so be there early!
