i don't see splendour moving totally away from triple j, theres too much tradition for splendour to change so drastically.

The likely headliners imo:

Arctic Monkeys (will have new album, playing Europe festival in early July)
Blur (said they will tour worldwide, a gap between 13 July and 7 August)
The Strokes (should have new album, played Splendour last tour)
QOTSA (playing lots of Europe festivals, no dates after July 5)
Mumford & Sons (recent tour was by Secret Sounds, played Splendour 3 years ago)

Outside Chances:

Arcade Fire (if the new album is done in time)
Kings of Leon (tour gap of 14th July-8th August, not sure if they are a 'Splendour band')

Other Bands:

The National (to sub-headline one night if new album is out in first half of 2013)
The Temper Trap (they are working on new material already and are a favourite with the Splendour crowd)
Editors (well overdue for a tour, new album out in first half of 2013)
Klaxons (new album in 2013)
Placebo (new album, have played Splendour before)

Would also expect a few return visitors such as Alt-J, MS MR, The Vaccines, Crystal Castles, Foals and Two Door Cinema Club.

Edit: Scratch Muse, they are in Helsinki on Sat 27th July.
October: Elbow
December: Falls Festival
June: Glastonbury Festival

I can see; Josh Osho, Spector, Jake Bugg fitting into the 'emerging international talent that's set to blow up in Australia several months after they play Splendour' category - would it be too soon for a Justice return? Maybe even a Royksopp return, that'd be rad.

so, how realistic is blur??
really, could it happen?
would they be a big enough headliner in aus?
were there any clues when gorillaz came out to aus last time?
are blur going anywhere further than europe next year?
can i get my hopes up just yet????????????????/

tim delaughter just told me on twitter that polyphonic spree will be on the lineup - https://twitter.com/timdelaughter/st...67632656969728

well, i assume "we" means polyphonic spree and not preteen zenith. or a tripping daisy reunion.

With Midnight Juggernauts obviously starting to tour again with the St Kilda lineup, they could be a good option?

well with stone roses at future, pulp at splendor a few years back and noel at bdo last year it seems logical one of them would coax blur out, i think it'll be sitg. As for australian bands i think this will be the year alpine get added to more festivals, hopefully sarah blasko, lisa mitchell etc also

Mew would be amazing! They are touring in Europe a bit in June/July too, unfortunately though I don't know if they'll ever come down to Australia.

I think Royksopp and Klaxons are decent chances to come back for Splendour. Could see Klaxons working well closing the Mix Up one night.

There's nothing stopping Mew from coming to SITG. Sure they didn't come on the No More Stories tour, but I don't see that affecting their chances.

Royksopp, however, only toured Australia for the first time in 2012 so, as much as I hate to say it, it might be quite a while before they come back.

Because at least Mumford & Sons didn't tour here for the first time ever since their first album back in 2001. I just think that if it took Royksopp around 12 years to come then who knows how long it could take for them to come back again.

They're releasing a new album this year. Having toured last year caused a lot of buzz and riding on that for another big festival like splendour is in no way out of the question

Once their American tour wraps on Feb. 10 in Cleveland, OH, [Walk the Moon] head to Europe for a slate of headlining dates through March. After that, they plan to tour Japan and Australia for the first time, in addition to some other surprises.

Fuji Rock followed by Splendour? If so, that would make me extremely happy.

They're from Brisbane dude.

Also, I think Japandroids are a possibility, due to the lack of Laneway sideshows.

And also the typical international JJJ buzz bands, a lot of which seb has already mentioned, eg.
Everything Everything
Haim
Jake Bugg
Palma Violets
Rudimental
Thao & The Get Down Stay Down
Villagers
etc.

And Metz would be wicked sick.

What would AJ be promoting this year that would attract Placebo? They're releasing an album in March, wouldn't a February tour for Soundwave the next year be a little late for a promotional tour?

bowie. just kidding. maybe unknown mortal orchestra? they were just here for peats ridge but with new releases and the seemingly uptake in popularity from jjj hosts they could be back. if there is a lot of brit indie (which is good) i think frank ocean, big boi and polyphonic spree would be a nice balance. blur or placebo would b good. wu-tang seem to be doing the festival rounds. bdo had a lot of splendour-esque acts foals, yeah yeah yeahs, vampire weekend, death grips. looking forward to seeing what they come up with.

For some reason, I just don't think Frank Ocean is going to come (as much as it pains me to say it), and you should know that Wu-Tang Clan are playing another festival (as shown by Grattan earlier in the thread).
