Not an overly exciting 3-day lineup tbh.

I'm strongly considering buying a single day ticket on friday though, $135.00 is pretty reasonable when you consider all of this will be on offer -

Jack White, At The Drive In, The Shins, Explosions in the Sky, Michael
Kiwanaku, Youth Lagoon, POND, Chet Faker, Canyons, FLUME.

Anyone have any thoughts on the set times for this day, thats the catch... could be painful to see JW, ATDI, EITS & the shins clashing/overlapping.

Any rough ideas would be much appreciated!

This lineup is about as "big" as I expected. Everyone just think about when we finally move to Yelgun, we'll be getting lineups of 2010's calibre again. Until then, this is what splendour always was. Look back at 2009 and beyond, knowing that it was only 2 days, and then look at all the entertainment you'll get for 3 days in an intimate capacity venue. Splendour is going to be off chops yewwwww

I honestly still prefer woodford, and feel that they really got too involved in the "lets return home" shit instead of just trying to build their brand. I would have loved to have seen one more shot of a 2010-esque lineup with the 40,000 at woodford while still working yelgun out rather than another "temporary" venue at belongil.

But at the same time, belongil is a really rad little venue and will be even better this year with the campgrounds now being extra fun stuff. Walking to town or the beach is awesome and are things that can really blow woodford out of the water.

At the end of the day, they're both awesome venues for a fabulous festival that you will all have a great time at.

I reckon with the ass falling out of the festival market they figured that they would scale back and rebuild rather than go for broke at Woodford.

Indeed. Plus Byron has NACHOS. And the 23-hour bakery.

Fri:

Main: Jack White
Mix Up: Kimbra
GW Tent: Explosions in the Sky

Interesting theory, your probably right. Is there a chance that the shins would close the GW tent though?

I'm considering buying a single day ticket for friday, as long as I can hopefully get to see at the drive in, jack white, explosions in the sky & youth lagoon.

Does anybody think this could be possible for set times on friday...

Main: Youth Lagoon, then Explosions in the Sky, then At the Drive In, then Jack White (closing)
Mix Up: Canyons, then Chet Faker, then Yacht Club DJ's, then Kimbra (closing)
GW: Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, then Ben Howard, then Michael Kawinaku, then The Shins (closing)

This would be amazing, but maybe too good to be true.

While I would've much preferred one more year at Woodford, I can see why Splendour decided to go back to Byron and in all honesty it is a pretty smart move. Cut your losses whilst the festival market is in the state it is right now and come back next year with the capacity back up to 30 000 and a massive lineup.
August: Kasabian, Kav Temperley
September: Biffy Clyro x3, The Kite String Tangle

I'm not a big Bloc Party fan by any stretch but even I know how popular they are here.

Beady Eye weren't allowed to play because with 360 they had already filled their shit quota.

Reality has struck. The lineup is terrible & not worth the time, money & energy invested in going. Even a friday pass is a stretch given that the timetable could ruin it entirely. Of course you'd be naive to say there's nothing exciting on the lineup, (ATDI, EITS, JW, YL, etc) but overall its generally just a recycled, thinned out, mediocre attempt at a splendour lineup. After attending the last 5 Splendours in a row I can safely say this is by far the least exciting lineup released.

Let's hope they're saving all the buzz for the move to Yelgun next year with larger capacity & bigger and better lineup's.

Sorry to kill the buzz

For Friday I think The Afghan Whigs will be headlining GW Tent and EITS headling the Mix-up tent.

Friday: Jack White, ATDI, Explosions In The Sky, The Shins, Spiderbait, Michael Kiwanuka, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, Yacht Club Djs, Youth Lagoon and a few others
Saturday: Bloc Party, Miike Snow, Dirty Three, 360, Lana Del Ray, Tame Impala, Mudhoney, Band Of Skulls, Jinja Safari, Bleeding Knees Club, The Beautiful Girls
Sunday: Smashing Pumpkins (Pending on their next release) Gossip, Azelia Banks, Metric, Django Django, San Cisco, Electric Guest, Angus Stone, Fun., Ball Park Music, Parachute Youth, Gossling

If you can't get a good day out of it from that then you're cooked. It's Splendour just go on a magical adventure and find new bands

Yeah I could definitely have fun in there based on those bands.

It doesn't necessarily make it a cracking lineup though.

Honestly, your kidding yourself if you think this lineup is worth $350.00

The only reason a lot of people will be going is because of the splendour lifestyle/vibe, which is awesome I can understand that. Otherwise the fact that many bands are only performing at splendour in the grass, & I'd expect a lot of friday only tickets to be sold due to this reason exactly.

Gone are the day's of lineups like 2010. No beef all lettuce in my opinion.

The bands I really want to see:

Jack White
Explosions in the Sky
The Shins
Bloc Party
Lana Del Rey
Ladyhawke
Yuksek
Metric
The Kooks

I'd pay $40 on average each for a festival set. Those 10 bands therefore I'd pay $400 to see individually. And at Splendour I get to see a shitload of other bands I'm a bit interested in as well as hang out with a bunch of my mates at Byron.
Pretty good deal if you ask me.

To be fair, I'd say the 2010 lineup was so awesome partly due to timing. It featured a lot of good quality middle tier "buzz bands" (Foals, TDCC etc) that were blowing up and/or had never toured Australia before.

exactly it is the lifestyle, next point, lineups are going to be soft for a while, there are too many festivals around the world, and every band think they can get a million dollars plus australia festivals can't afford this or they will fall over. I reckon it aint too bad of a line up and already waiting for the clashes.

I am sadden that they have day tix, it takes away the whole vibe, anyhows, splendour is splendour and it's good to have it around.

Exactly. I hate how they now offer day tickets. The whole splendour experience is the only way to do it. I always save and work towards a splendour ticket months in advance. I know it aint cheap but god damn its a good weekend

i should mention, though, they had day tix once before then stopped it.

last year I think they made a comeback cause they were desperate to sell tickets, this year there is no excuse. it also reduces capacity, imagine if friday day tickets sell out and only sat/sun left, gunna me it weird, i know there isnt a lot of day tix but still.

Personally I think for 3 days of entertainment with the bands that are playing, $350 is good value. It's not cheap, but it's worth that figure and I'm more than willing to pay it. Hell, my accommodation is an extra $400 lol
