Apartments in our complex were and are fine, but the carpark took about a metre and a half of water and it's done nasty stuff to the electrical boards that are down there. Apparently getting those certified by energex and the sparkies may take a little while. I think some air con units got drenched too, and that's a complicating factor. On the street itself, the water probably stopped about 50 metres from our doorstep, but it snuck up the low-lying properties alongside and into the carpark that way.

The shopping centre directly next door is a mess and is currently being gutted. The service station down the road is a disaster.

I got lucky by a couple of metres vertically.

I never thought about it. It just was there. And green cordial was GI Cordial.
Was it named after the American Servicemen? I don't know.

Never seen that one before.

Did you go to Islay/Mull or anywhere in Western Scotland?

Laphroaig is so peaty you can almost taste the campfire. Sensational!

I love Oban. Partly because I've been to the distillery and it's where my clan originates, but also because it's awesome.

That's the old castle!

My quest for a distillery tour started in Oban. Lovely little port town, but their distillery was shut due to burst pipes, so I kept on going and ended up on Islay. I visited Bowmore, Arbeg, Lagavulin and Laphroaig -- none of which were doing tours due to stupid Scottish new year bank holidays. Lagavulin's shop was open at least and I acquired a couple of bottles there. The island is so beautiful -- quintessential tiny windswept island criss-crossed by rushing streams. Dry-rock walls everywhere and /so/ green. Really friendly people. But absolutely dead in the off-season.

I didn't have time to go to Islay unfortunately.

Spent a couple of days in Oban though. I felt so at home. It was amazing the connection I felt with the place. It probably helped that my surname was also the name of several shops in town.

The Laphroaig 10yo quarter cask is really sharp. It really kicks at the end, whereas the 16yo Lagavulin is just as smoky, but it's just rich and smooth all the way through.

My Oban experience was a total cock-up. The distillery was advertised to be open for tours, but the burst pipes put paid to that, it was miserably wet and the micro-brewery I stumbled on nearby was out of its house beer so I couldn't try their stuff either. Their cafe did the best deep-fried haddock though, and without the tourist information people I never would have got to Islay and the hostel (Jeremy Inglis -- fucking fine folk) insisted on refunding the money I'd paid to stay the night.

I'm not sure where all that was going, tbh...

PS: BH, I have a bottle of Oban to try soon as well.
