History tells us that when festivals say they're gonna take a break and come back, they never do.

I find it surprising the extent to which this news is being met with a collective shrug. Big Day Out was such a massive deal, and now it's disappearing for (at least) a year, and nobody really seems to care. That could be the final nail in its coffin.

No one caring probably has a big part to do with why it ended.

vivien lees started and ran a successful festival for many years and one which we eagerly awaited line up news. for this thank you. aj madder seems to have had a hand in the closing down of many popular festivals and his promises to punters have often not eventuated. he also seems to have put many international artists on the back foot and has never really shown much interest in promoting australian artists. i won't trust or rush to purchase tickets to any aj promoted festivals. he seems to have little understanding for regional festival attendees airfares, accommodation, time off work, incidentals)- and cares even less when such issues are raised. the recent move to smaller regional festivals is a good move but boy we will miss those january bdo special moments thar we will always remember. i hope bdo returns in 2016-bigger and better than ever. aj will get what he deserves. karma is a powerful thing!!!

the final big day outs became a greatest hits parade revisiting the glory days of the early nineties. i was at every big day out from 92 to 97 so i do not want to see the same acts in 2014. the big day out in no longer taking risks with its musical variety so it needs to be put to rest.
far better festival like the peats ridge festival have folded so for something like the bdo to continue is a travesty.

anyone looking for a good australia day festival should take a punt on rainbow serpent instead !

If you went to every BDO from 92 - 97 you were no longer in the BDO's target market in 2013
