That's a really, stupidly obvious, solution. Only 2 of the albums I have from this year don't have 2014 in their ID3 tag, and that would be an easy fix.

I wasted all my years at uni..

edit: And then I can just at a query for non-2014 albums I listen to this year as well if the date added is >= Jan 1st < Jan 1st 2015, and year doesn't equal 2014.... fuck.

Lucky you weren't studying IT or similar.

I also then make a playlist for songs that I particular like for a year (Favourite songs of 2014), and then I filter that list again with another playlist called Top 2014 (in hindsight, favourite and top seem to be bad comparable words). You'd be surprised how well this system works.

This has worked great for me for many years, but I noticed I was too focused on new releases and started neglecting previous years. So then I just create 3 more of the exact same list names but add "not from 2014" in them.

But yeah, rough top 5 so far:

Young the Giant - Mind Over Matter
Todd Terje - It's Album Time
Bombay Bicycle Club - So long, See you Tomorrow
DZ Deathrays - Black Rat
Nothing - Guilty of Everything

Yeah, but I'd say that more than half of the 2014 albums I've listened to, I listened to on spotify and haven't downloaded :/

That's what you get for listening to music in a legitimate, new-age way. Sucks though

Our society has reached the point where we're too lazy to even download music.
