Khan is still Khan, the story has just changed. See BC's post about the trailer. The new character sure shares a lot of similarities with Khan.
Alice Eve is also playing Carol Marcus from Wrath of Khan so from my observations it has always been leading to a big reveal in the movie.
I could be wrong but I doubt it.

Don't get me wrong, it would be cool if it was Khan. But what would be even cooler is if it isn't Khan, but related to Khan in some way that hasn't occured to most people yet. That would be a genuine surprise.

My problem is that with everyone assuming it's Khan, if they do pull the switch, instead of appreciating the switch, there'll be a whole bunch of "This is BS, it should've been Khan, derpa derrr" Internet nonsense.

I will have no problem if it's not Khan and I could care less about the internet nonsense that will exist no matter what happens. The new Star Trek has gained a whole new audience so a lot of people won't even know who Khan is. The majority of people I have spoken to about it have no idea what I am talking about. The big reveal doesn't exist for them.
I watched the Khan episode of Star Trek this morning. I am convinced that Into Darkness will be the recreation of that story so I will eat my hat if the opening stanza doesn't involve the Enterprise discovering the SS Botany Bay.

Some strange TASM buzz and speculation doing the rounds at the moment.
It would be interesting if a studio started announcing decoy character castings to protect story lines.
Say for instance, Paul Giamatti is actually playing Doc Ock and Dane DeHaan is Eddie Brock. It would fit with the Ultimate Spiderman assocation.

For any fans of HBO's Girls, I recommend Lena Dunham's indie film Tiny Furniture from 2010. Similar concept to the show and also stars the actors who play Jessa and Ray (their characters are different though).

The rumours seem to be that they're aiming to have the Sinister Six in a later movie (their own version of it, at least). If they do go that route I'll try to be open minded about it, but it could be a failure of Spider-man 3 proportions.

I am totally speculating without any evidence here.
They are in negotiation to make a Venom movie and Josh Trank (Chronicle) is slated to direct. Chronicle star Dane DeHaan is obviously playing a role on TASM 2.
They have used Ultimate Spider-man for inspiration so far. Eddie Brock/Venom and Peter Parker are childhood friends in Ultimate, both their fathers worked together and both died in the planecrash. Also Doc Ock works as a scientist for Oscorp in Ultimate before his accident.
I just never understood casting Giamatti as Rhino. He doesn't really suit the part and the character sucks as well.

Yeah, I sort of agree about Rhino. I don't hate the character, but of all the villains to choose from they chose him? I guess they just wanted a minor villain.

I'm happy for them to follow the Ultimate Spider-man storylines and characters. I liked the Ultimate version of Doc Ock. Not too keen on the Ultimate Green Goblin, though.

But I haven't read any of the ultimate comics in about ten years (I think the last one I read either introduced or reintroduced Eddie Brock.), so I don't really know much about the Ultimate Spider-man comics.

So, my week of "movies that should be better than Argo" is done...

Django Unchained: Yes
Zero Dark Thirty: Hell yes.
Lincoln: No.

Good god Lincoln was an average movie.

i never really stuck with ultimate Spider-man but in that series isn't Rhino a small guy in a big suit? in which case I can see Giamatti as Rhino.

An Osbourne led sinister 6 would be tits.

He is a nothing character in Ultimate, just a guy in a mechanical suit, that Iron Man movie's have been flogging to death.
They could flesh it out a bit but I think it is a waste of Giamatti's talents. I really have no idea what they are planning so will just have to wait for a trailer.

It really was. I was championing the guy in the movie who had the shits with Lincoln sitting down to tell a story every 10 minutes. The only remarkable thing about Lincoln was James Spader's character.
I don't understand why it is in the mix for Oscars.

I get why it's in the running for the acting. Daniel Day Lewis and Tommy Lee Jones should win all of the things. But Sally Field started off the rails and got worse as the film progressed. And Steven Spielberg and John Williams need to be taken out the back and beaten up.

How Kathryn Bigelow didn't get a Director nom is anyone's guess...

I saw Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters last night.

To the surprise of no one, it's shit.

It has a few fun moments, but over all it's a mess of bad writing, acting, anachronism, 3D and special effects.

Famke Jansen isn't hot enough to justify how shit an actor she is.

The biggest problem is it couldn't decide if it wanted to be a coy take on a classic tale, winking at the audience, or a gruesome gritty update.

I was able to relate to Jeremy Renner's character though. His character didn't give a fuck abou anything in the movie and neither did I.

If we count Django Unchained as a movie of last year (and I go by when it was first released, not when it was released in Australia), then it's the movie of 2012.

I'm assuming by "this year" you mean 2012.

Django Unchained will be hard to beat in 2012 or 2013 so we could call it the movie of 2 years

Right, well that can only be a good thing!

I have fond memories of watching the original series on SBS, especially seeing the advertisement for the first time. Giant robots fighting space monsters with theological undertones?? YES PLEASE.
