I agree, not the fantastic part though. I don't understand how a director would allow such an important event in the story to be shown in the trailer.

Not really. Maybe that's because deep-down I might have a New Zealand bias that meant that I would like the movie no matter what. Or maybe it depends on the viewer, I don't know.

Les Miserables is great. Jackman and Hathaway are solid but Baron Cohen was my highlight. Russell Crowe while not dreadful was the only weak point if only for his vocal range. I doubt Jackman takes home an Oscar, John Hawkes is my favourite.

Didn't Kobe Bryant rape someone?

Saw The Hobbit. I thought it was really fun. I didn't feel it took too long to sart like some have said.

They changed a fair few parts but they were certainly changes made better for a movie, as opposed to a book. The tone was wonderful and well balanced. Funny enough in the childish parts but epic in the battles. I don't think they were stretching the material either, I am realy looking forward to the next two.

My only real complaint was that I saw it in 3D and in the 48 frame rate. I found both of these things jarring to getting absorbed in the atmosphere of the film and everytime I thought I was used to it, it annoyed me again. The frame rate made me feel as though I was watching a TV show at times.

I saw the 3D/48 frame version as well. Though the 48 frame rate took a little while to get used to (I agree with you BC on the point about watching a TV show), that combined with the 3D worked pretty well for me.

Was a bit disappointed with The Hobbit. I have never read the books but I had been previously warned that the Hobbit was more kid friendly which I felt was captured in the tone of the film. I never once felt that the company was in any real danger during the movie, the action bordered on slapstick. Unfortunately the regular screening had sold out and I was left with 3D, the 48 fps really sucked. The cinematography was a massive regression from Fellowship of the Ring.

I re-watched the fellowship this morning. Other than a few 'made for 3d' shots I think the cinematography stands up.

I agree it was slightly more kid friendly but watching TFOTR again made me realise how many jokes they slipped into that as well.

Out of curiousity, In the book does a troll/orc/goblin die with a wisecrack as his final words? TFOTR had a a real tone of dread, The Hobbit just felt whimsy.

Django Unchained was amazing and the greatest film I've seen all year.

Leonardo DiCaprio should win best supporting actor for his performance. I haven't seen Lincoln yet but I cannot comprehend what performance could be more deserving than Calvin Candie.

Got the boxset of LOTR for Christmas and have been re-watching the films. There's an insane amount of added footage that really adds to the storyline; backstories for Aragorn, Boromir, Faramir etc. Really excited to the see The Hobbit tomorrow.

Went to see th hobbit by myself last night. I thought it was another faithful adaptation but what surprised me was teh fact that they edited down so much dialogue from the book when they were obviously loking to expand it into as long a film as possible. take for example when Gandalf meets Bilbo, in the film the only past exploit of Gandalf that is mentioned in that conversation is the fireworks none of the other stuff in the book. the tacked on beginning, just to give Frodo some screen time was a bit contrived. And then the whole scene with Saruman and the Lady of Lorien was added - plus the Radighast scenes, but they fit into the overall story so it wasn't a major contrivance.

It was an enjoyable Part1, but it's length meant I was bored at times and then you're left hanging for part 2.

I can't be bothered reading through these posts becasue I'm a motherfucker who has to work on NYE and I got some shit to do now. Is Jack Reacher worth watching? I'm thinking of pledging allegiance to Xenu and becoming the next Mrs Tom Cruise.

It's not out until Thursday, dude! I like Cruise and haven't read the books so I won't be annoyed at any changes they made to it, which seems to be the major criticisms I've seen.

Are you mad? That looks terrible. The Rock and Marky Mark mugging for camera, and then diving through the usual Michael Bay bullshit.

Im going to run a book on the number of gay panic jokes in that movie - the over/under is around 100.

A lot of people are going to see the hobbit due to the sherlock fandom also, even though sherlock is a dragon. Gangster squad looks okay even though both emma stone and ryan gosling are overrated as fuck, hitchcock will be gr8 seeing today.

i really don't think sherlock fandom is the reason a lot of people are going to see the hobbit.

I think a lot of people are going to see the hobbit because it's set in the same world, and by the same writer, and director, of one of the most beloved film trilogies of all time.

yeah but fandom takes place over most things there and the it's not the main reason so it take that but it's a major selling point. Even though perks for the most part (except when you are supposed to buy the fact a bunch of hipsters who listens to the smiths have a hard time knowing that a song is by david bowie) was flawless having emma watson would have been a major selling point due to the fandom.

If you love Perks of Being A Wallflower you are the tumblr generation. It is such an overrated movie and story.
In my opinion the people that think it is amazing think that way because they used it as an exercise into reaffirming how different they really are...
