Who Wants Some NashvillePussy?

“Who wants some pussy? We do…”
It’s the opening line to Nashville Pussy’s latest album Get Some under license to Chatterbox Records and it sets the scene for not only this album, but the band’s entire career.
It’s been less than two years since Nashville Pussy touched down in Australia for their first tour and blew punters away with their hard rocking and hard party antics, and now they are coming back to “party with us again” according Nashville Pussy resident hell-raiser Jeremy Thompson.
“We had a great time down there last trip and we’re really looking forward to going back to do it all again.” You get the distinct feeling though that the quartet of guys and gals that make up Nashville Pussy would find a party in any corner of the world. Jeremy agrees: “We like to party, and have a few drinks with our friends and fans after the show.”
Hard drinking, hard partying…what about drugs?
“Why what can you get?”
“What do you want?”
“You guys got Hash over there?”
And that’s how the conversation continues for the next ten minutes.
The Pussies have become infamous around the globe for their show-stopping on stage antics not to mention their attitudes and lifestyle offstage. The husband wife team of Vocalist/Guitarist Blaine Cartwright and lead guitarist Ruyter Suys has been much publicised and we hear so often of the amount of sex this band gets, but Faster Louder want to hear it from the horse’s mouth so to speak. “More than we need,” is Jeremy’s response. He chuckles: “But some men need more than most.”
The last member to complete Nashville Pussy’s four-piece, is Karen Cuda on bass. Karen is the newest member to the group although she was around for the last album Say Something Nasty in 2002. She is a hot looking rock chick – think Pink but in AC/DC and Motorhead T-shirts.
Nashville Pussy have just finished a one month tour of Europe including England, Scotland, and Germany, promoting the latest album and by all press accounts it was a successful tour for the old school Southern boys and girls. “We had a great reaction towards the new songs from the crowds and we played some really great shows,” Jeremy reminisces. “This is my favorite album so far and we seem to be getting the same reaction from the crowds that we’re playing to.”
The album is certainly a quality recording. It was produced by Daniel Rey (White Zombie, Ramones, Masters of Reality) and proves that Nashville Pussy are a group that is at the peak of their abilities as a party rock band. Tracks like ‘Good Night For A Heart Attack” and ‘Lazy White Boy’ show the amusing sense of humour these riff rockers share – but then the band take it a step further and have included two cover songs on the album.
“Everyone knows ‘Nutbush City Limits’ by Ike and Tina Turner and it’s a song we’ve wanted to do for awhile now, so when we got into the studio this time we just jammed it out and it just worked,” Jeremy proudly announces. The second cover song is a lesser known track but by just as well known an artist – Ace Frehley. “I’ve always loved the song ‘Snow Blind’,” says Jeremy “and it’s another song that we thought we should include on the album when we heard it recorded.”
Yet this reporter can’t help but wonder why when you have lyrics like /Every time I see her naked I wish that God would strike me blind/ Because she’s got my daddies mustache and her butt looks just like mine/ (Taken from Meaner Than my Mother) why you would want to be playing covers at all – but that’s what is so great about this band. They are a group that lives their music and scene, but first comes the music – which is a hard feat when your record company is constantly publicising you as a hard drinkin’, hard rockin’, and hard livin’ band. In this situation people sometimes lose sight of the bigger picture of the music, but not the Pussies.
“The show Is what it Is,” declares Jeremy. “We don’t choreograph it or plan it. Shit just happens and we all just go with it, The show is a side-effect of the music” and the music on Get Some is definitely going to cause side-effects, with every song relating to drugs, alcohol or sex or all three at once you can’t be blamed for indulging in the peer pressure this band promotes. Jeremy says on the subject “We’re not telling anyone else to do what we do, we just tell them how much fun it is to do it”.
“There’s something for everyone in our show and we get a great response to what we do wherever we go, because people like to enjoy themselves and they see us doing the same and join in.We get all ages to our gigs, sometimes it surprises me the people who listen to our music.”
So lock up your sons and daughters and put on your tight black jeans and big belt buckles advertising Harley Davidson & R.M. Williams. Then get yourselves down to a Nashville Pussy gig and you will be treated to a rock and roll extravaganza not to mention a party that is not to be missed. “I’m not sure what night it is we are playing in Sydney, but shit every night’s like a Friday night,” finishes Jeremy.
It’s tough being a Rock Star…
