The 25 best interviews of 2012

From Noel Gallagher to Ken West we look back at some of FL's most memorable interviews from 2012.

Over the course of 2012, we've spoken to dozens of musicians and “colourful music identities". We've battled it out with Billy Corgan, discussed the fine art of “pulling chicks” with Jason Mewes, sat in the presence of Noel Gallagher’s “Godlike Genius,” talked smut with Steel Panther and found out what Fat Mike keeps in his sex dungeon. In honour of some of these finer moments we look back at 25 of our favourite interviews from 2012.

Die Antwoord by Katie Cunninghmam

“We were at one of the Rammstein guy’s house for a week, and we also stayed at Aphex Twin’s house for a week. And they’re fucking weirdos, they’re both fucking weird. But we don’t just collaborate with someone; we have to be friends with someone for a long time before because it’s not just like…because it’s normally just some fucking record company stupid kind of move. We have to be friends with people first.”

Jay and Silent Bob by David Swan

“I would say I spanked at least seven to eight times in one day. It was at the point that my penis wouldn’t even get hard, but I’d be so horny that I would jerk off and I couldn’t help it. And that’s for real. I was sick from the opiate withdrawal and the blood wasn’t flowing so I wouldn’t get rock hard but the feelings were coming back. Seriously, I was feeling like I was a teenager when I first had sex, and afterwards just wanted more and more and more.”

Noel Gallagher by Michael Hartt

“I’ve got a backlog of songs which would blow your mind. I can go into a studio on any given day – and I’ve been able to do this for the past 15 years – and do two albums. Any given day. But I don’t sit and write in a rush when I’ve got to write an album. I just write all the time for fun. I was writing this morning. I just sat in a room – and I really haven’t been that excited about anything I’ve written for a while – and three songs started today out of nowhere.”

Steel Panther by Tom Mann

“It’ll just be nice to smell out some new Australian vagina. I have not been with anyone from Australia and I really want to put my penis in an Australian girl’s vagina. I’m going to experiment with a bunch of different things over there; I really am. I can’t wait to knock the first one out and then just see what happens. Maybe I’ll meet a special girl over there I’m not sure, but I sure would like to show them how we do things in the States.”

Nile Rodgers from Chic by Tom Mann

“It’s funny I’ve known Daft Punk for some time now but we were never really close – we never got a chance to hang out with each other, we would just meet in passing. So today was the first chance we had to spend hour and hours and hours together and it was just so awesome. Every track they played I just ran across the room and got my guitar and started playing and we were all dancing around my dining room having the time of our lives. It was something that was meant to be. It was interesting how Thomas [Bangalter] said to me “it’s funny Nile, it’s like we’ve completed the circle”. We’ve always just met, just had a moment to talk and then finally today we just said this is something that has to happen. It’s the thing that’s always happened my entire life. I meet an artist, we vibe and that vibe turns into magic.”
