Live preview of SoundwaveFestival 2012
Thu 23rd Feb, 2012 in Features
The Soundwave Festival is finally be upon us! To get us in the mood for everything metal we have put together a mini live preview of Soundwave 2012: the set lists, live footage and what to expect when the likes of Slipknot and System Of A Down make their long-awaited return to our shores.
Slipknot
WHAT TO EXPECT
Slipknot have played thirteen shows now since the passing of bass player Paul Gray, and according to reviews from their Sonisphere show in July last year you can expect lots of flames, their old boiler suits, a set-list dominated by their first two albums and at least one new song. Sound Sphere reported from the UK in July: “The pyro on stage is nothing compared to the eruption of the audience as the band bring the full force of Slipknot, and it’s the heaviest we have ever seen them. Corey explains to the audience that this is not a time for being sad about Paul Gray’s death, but a celebration of his life.”
New bassist Donnie Steele played the first shows obscured from audience view out of respect for Paul Gray, and there is no doubt the band will continue their set closing tribute to Gray at their Australian shows: “At the end of the gig, Til We Die comes over the PA, a giant number 2 is displayed as Paul Gray’s suit and bass is placed at the front of stage. As Joey Jordison comes from behind the drum kit he hugs the outfit. It’s a sad moment, but as Donnie Steele appears from behind the riser he is given a welcome to the Slipknot family.”
