One Dollar Short

One Dollar Short fought the good fight for pop-punk with a bunch of radio hits and ARIA charting albums from their formation in 1998 until they went on hiatus back in early 2005. After a few years away from the stage they’re out of hibernation to play at Coaster festival in Gosford. FL caught up with lead singer Scotte Woods to ask about the return and

I know that you guys have been doing some other projects since ODS announced an “indefinite hiatus”. Trent had the Mighty Men of Steel, and Scott.E is currently playing in Sparrows. What have the likes of Mick and Checky been up to?
Mick is playing in burn the city and Checky is playing Toe To Toe

Whose idea was it to get back together and why?
I think it was more or less the time being right… six years off tends to revitalise things… we had been getting a steady stream of show offers, Coaster came through and everyone was in agreeance

Were you guys aware that there’s a Facebook group called “Let’s get a One Dollar Short comeback tour”?
Only recently… due to ODS resurfacing there has been a lot emails of support and facebook movement.. it’s a really nice feeling

So now the most obvious question is the one on everyone’s lips – Is the Coaster Festival a one-off comeback show, or can we expect a tour sometime down the track?
After how well practice has been going and the general great chemistry again with everyone, after discussing it, there will be some more shows.

I know that the fans are pretty excited that you’re getting back together, what’s more, it’s going to be in what’s basically your home town. Are you guys also excited about taking the stage together for the first time as a band in 6 years?
It’s definitely nice to have a homecourt advantage… i think nervous was the first sensation or thought i had ha ha… now it’s excitement… also really interested in seeing how ODS is received six years down the track.

Towards the latter stage of the band’s career, you went through a few lineup changes with guitarists and bass players. Who can we expect to take the stage at the Coaster Festival?
Pretty much the original lineup, Myself, Trent, Mick Dan and Adam

Have you written any new material? Or will you be playing your extensive back catalog? Definitely playing back catalogue… all the hits ha ha… we have been working on new material, which is exciting and reflects where the band is now as adults.

What else can fans expect of your performance at the Coaster Festival?
A revitalized band happy to playing Coaster and happy to be playing a bunch of songs that have great nostalgic value for us… we had a lot of great times.

What’s considered “punk” these days strays from what it was ten, and even five years ago. How do you plan to win over the kids who are too young to have seen or heard you previously?
That’s interesting, i was talking about this with the guys just the other night… i think the audience demographic will be split into original fans, people who may have heard of us and people who have never heard of ODS but hopefully will come to enjoy hearing a bunch of pop songs for the first time. I think if we play well and enjoy the moment people will receive ODS with some affection..

Who else on the festival lineup are you looking forward to seeing/playing with and why?
Something with Numbers and Jebediah because of the friendships we have with them and they’re great bands… and also really keen to check out Bagraiders.

Catch One Dollar Short at Coaster Festival on Saturday 17th September at the Gosford Showgrounds in Gosford.
